Overview

Spend a summer studying and traveling through 3 fabulous European cities with AIFS! Spend 9 nights in London, 6 nights in Paris and 5 nights in Rome.

Academics

AIFS Abroad offers a unique global educational experience for students on this program, with the following academic options available:

Academic credit for this course is awarded by Fairfield University. Fairfield University is a private Jesuit university founded in 1942 in Fairfield, Connecticut, well known for their commitment to international education. Fairfield is a fully accredited university and member of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. 

In 2020 Fairfield and AIFS partnered to develop a school of record relationship that will allow academic credit to be available for both Fairfield and non-Fairfield students. 

Course syllabi and faculty credentials are reviewed and approved by Fairfield University. 

  • Film Studies

Students will examine major developments in European cinema and considers film in its historical, cultural, social, political, industrial, and aesthetic contexts. This study tour begins in London before traveling on to Paris and then Rome, three influential cities in European Cinema history. Included in this travel course are visits to film studios and museums, walking tours of film locations, and presentations from guest speakers who are experts in the field.

A Summer Abroad Studying European Cinema

Meet Kayla, a college student from Fairfield University who took over the AIFS Abroad Instagram story to answer questions about what it’s like to participate in our European Cinema program. This Study + Travel program option is multi-destination, making stops in England, France, and Italy.

Living Abroad

Day 1Optional overnight flight from the U.S. to London.* 
Day 2Arrive London. Transfer to accommodations.*  Rest of day free. 
Day 3Morning orientation followed by a sightseeing tour of London with a professional guide. See London’s famous sights including Piccadilly Circus in the heart of the West End, the Houses of Parliament and Buckingham Palace. 
Day 4Morning class. Afternoon walking tour of Alfred Hitchcock’s London, showing important locations from his own life as well as from his films such as 39 Steps, Frenzy and the Man Who Knew Too Much. 
Day 5Morning class. 
Day 6Morning class.  Afternoon visit to the British Film Institute. 
Day 7Full day visit to Warner Brothers Harry Potter Studios. 
Day 8Visit to the Bond in Motion exhibit at the London Film Museum followed by a walking tour of James Bond locations. 
Day 9Film viewing at the Regent Street Cinema – the oldest independent cinema in London and where moving images were first shown in the U.K. in 1896. 
Day 10Morning Class. 
Day 11Depart London by Eurostar for Paris. Arrive Paris and check into accommodations.  Evening river cruise in Paris. 
Day 12Morning class followed by a Paris film location walking tour.  In the evening view a film at one of the iconic old cinemas of Paris such as Le Grand Rex, Le Champo, Le Brady or Cinéma du Panthéon. 
Day 13Morning class. Afternoon visit to the La Cinémathèque Française. 
Day 14Morning class.  Afternoon visit to Le Cité du Cinema. 
Day 15Visit to Versailles. 
Day 16Free Day.
Day 17Flight from Paris to Rome. Transfer to accommodations. 
Day 18Morning class. Afternoon walking tour of Rome film locations including the Trevi Fountain, featured in La Dolce Vita. 
Day 19Morning class. Afternoon visit to the Colosseum, featured in Gladiator. 
Day 20Morning class. Afternoon visit to Cinecittà studios, still in use today. The studios have been used by many directors from Fellini (La Dolce Vita) to Scorsese (Gangs of New York). You can see sets, sound stages as well as exhibitions with memorabilia from past productions. 
Day 21Morning class. Afternoon free. Farewell group dinner. 
Day 22Optional return flight from Rome to the U.S.*

  • **** AIFS Abroad offers visa processing services to applicants who enroll into the program by this date. All other applicants who enroll after this date will be responsible for securing their own visa with guidance from AIFS Abroad.

Optional Flight Package

Participants can select an optional transportation package for all AIFS Abroad programs that includes a round-trip flight from 25 U.S gateways and airport transfers to and from campus. Participants who choose to book their own flights will be responsible for connecting with the group at the program location and will need to make their own ground transportation arrangements from the airport.

Below are fees by departure city based on average historical costs and subject to change. If you select this option on your application, the total flight package price will be confirmed approximately one month prior to departure. Your program fee is guaranteed, and the optional flight package is an additional fee. Please note that once we have finalized the pricing for your flights the cost may change, and you will be responsible for making the additional payment if you want to participate in the flight package. Your program advisor will be in touch should there be any changes in the price of your flights.
