Overview

Spend a summer studying and traveling through iconic cities in Europe with AIFS Abroad! Spend 5 nights in London, 4 nights in Paris, 2 nights in Nice, 3 nights in Venice, 4 nights in Florence and 4 nights in Rome studying the masterpieces of art history on the European Art and Culture program.

AIFS Abroad offers a unique global educational experience for students on this program, with the following academic options available:

Universities

Academic credit for the program is awarded by Fairfield University. Fairfield University is a private Jesuit university founded in 1942 in Fairfield, Connecticut, well known for their commitment to international education. Fairfield is a fully accredited university and member of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. 

In 2020 Fairfield and AIFS Abroad partnered to develop a school of record relationship that will allow academic credit to be available for both Fairfield and non-Fairfield students.

Eligibility

Eligibility requirements for European Art and Culture

  • Open to First Year, Sophomore, Junior, Senior, Graduate Student
  • Minimum of 2.5 GPA
For a graduate student that wants to participate in the program, the program will be undergraduate credits and will be primarily undergraduate participants. No alterations to the assignments/program possible to receive graduate credits.

Living Abroad

Itinerary

Day 1Optional overnight flight from U.S. to London*
Day 2Arrive in London. Transfer to accommodation.* Participants making their own travel arrangements should also arrive on this day. Time to settle in.
Day 3Morning orientation and first class. Afternoon sightseeing tour with a professional guide including photo stops at some of London’s famous sights such as Piccadilly Circus in the heart of the West End, the Houses of Parliament on the banks of the Thames and Buckingham Palace.
Day 4Morning Class. Afternoon visit to the British Museum to include Afternoon Tea.
Day 5Morning Tour of the National Gallery. Free afternoon.
Day 6Free day in London
Day 7Morning Eurostar train from London to Paris. Evening river cruise along the Seine.
Day 8Morning class. Afternoon visit to the D’Orsay Museum.
Day 9Free day in Paris.
Day 10Morning class. Afternoon visit to the Louvre.
Day 11Morning transfer by train to Nice. Evening class.
Day 12Morning class visit to the Matisse Museum. Balance of day free.
Day 13Morning transfer to Venice by private bus. Balance of day free.
Day 14Morning class. Afternoon guided sightseeing walking tour.
Day 15Morning visit to the Guggenheim Museum, which holds an important collection of modern art, including works by Picasso, Miró, Kandinsky and Pollock. Free afternoon.
Day 16Morning transfer to Florence. Free afternoon.
Day 17Morning class. Afternoon guided tour of the Ufizi Gallery.
Day 18Morning class. Afternoon visit to the Accademia Gallery.
Day 19Free day in Florence.
Day 20Morning transfer to Rome by train. Free afternoon.
Day 21Morning class. Afternoon guided tour of the Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Palatine Hill.
Day 22Morning self-guided visit to the Vatican. Balance of day free.

  • **** AIFS Abroad offers visa processing services to applicants who enroll into the program by this date. All other applicants who enroll after this date will be responsible for securing their own visa with guidance from AIFS Abroad.

Optional Travel Package

Participants can select an optional transportation package for all AIFS Abroad programs that includes a round-trip flight from 25 U.S gateways and airport transfers to and from campus. Participants who choose to book their own flights will be responsible for connecting with the group at the program location and will need to make their own ground transportation arrangements from the airport.

Below are fees by departure city based on average historical costs and subject to change. If you select this option on your application, the total travel package price will be confirmed approximately one month prior to departure. Your program fee is guaranteed, and the optional travel package is an additional fee. Please note that once we have finalized the pricing for your flights the cost may change, and you will be responsible for making the additional payment if you want to participate in the travel package. Your program advisor will be in touch should there be any changes in the price of your flights.
