AIFS in Seoul Director, Summer Program

Alice Evans

안녕하세요! Welcome to Seoul! A U.K. national, I’ve been living over in Seoul for the past five and a half years. What started as a whirlwind summer holiday trip ended up with me falling in love with this fast-paced and totally unique city, motivating me to take on a new career and a new continent – and after nearly six years here, I’m still discovering something new every day.

Along with the more widely-known aspects of Korean culture, from K-pop and K-dramas to K-fashion and K-BBQ, Seoul and the country of South Korea more broadly have a fascinating history, an enduring culture and a natural beauty that can take you from hiking in the mountains and national parks of the eastern side of the country down to swimming in the crystal-blue waters off the southern island of Jeju.

While in Seoul, you can expect to enjoy all the conveniences of hyper-modern metropolitan life, including a total immersion into the fast-paced Korean culture and language. Furthermore, day trips out to the other major cities of South Korea, made possible by the nation’s excellent transportation system, will provide you with a fascinating look into more traditional and historical Korean culture, architecture, food and more.

Gyeongbukgung Palace, the Hongdae shopping streets, Bongeunsa Temple, Lotte Tower and so much more await you. I look forward to meeting you!

The Program Director provides academic advice, introduces you to the community and handles communication with the University.

Sogang University and AIFS organize a variety of social events to help you make the most of campus life and support you on your health, wellbeing and academic journey. Some activities may require an additional fee.

  • Welcome events and entertainment to kick start your introduction to Seoul and the campus community
  • Student volunteers to partner with study abroad students to help them adapt to Korean life and immerse themselves in the local culture
  • Student clubs and societies from K-pop to basketball, martial arts to cooking
  • K Pop classes
  • Museum and city tours

Sogang University has a great range of sporting opportunities for students.   You can get involved in athletics, swimming, soccer, rugby, basketball, taekwondo, hiking and more whether you want to play competitively or socially.  Student sports clubs are open to all international students.
