Visa Requirements

Students must obtain a student visa for entry into South Korea. After acceptance AIFS will provide detailed visa information and the official documents required for students to apply for the visa.

Academics

AIFS Abroad offers a unique global educational experience for students on this program, with the following academic options available:

Sogang University is rated among the top universities in Seoul, and the entrance process is highly competitive for local students. There are approximately 8,000 students, 1,350 of whom are international, giving the university a strong international atmosphere.

Sogang has a modern campus offering excellent facilities to students, including indoor training areas, outdoor sports fields, music venues and practice rooms, bookstores, libraries, and more.

There are also many clubs and organizations available to students on campus, covering a wide range of interests: such as K-pop, the Korean martial art of Taekwondo, film, photography, magic, marketing, debating, and volunteering. The university also hosts various festivals and events throughout the year to welcome new students and encourage them to join clubs.

Eligibility requirements for Korean Studies, Liberal Arts and Business

  • Minimum of 2.5 GPA

Full Curriculum

Full Curriculum means that students can choose any undergrad course taught in English available on Sogang University’s curriculum subject to prerequisites. Students with a high level of proficiency in the Korean language will be able to select from the full course catalog subject to pre-requisites.

Student can choose 4 or 5 courses for 12 to 15 credits from 24 majors in six schools: Humanities, Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, Engineering, Economics and Business Administration. Korean is the main language on campus but many classes are taught in English so students have access to an extensive range of courses to choose from. Korean students are also in the classes so this is an integrated program. Most courses are for 45 hours and recommended for 3 credits.

The Korean Language Education Center on campus is highly respected. For students who want to improve and develop their Korean language skills there are three options:

  • Intensive Korean Language Course for students majoring/minoring in Korean/Asian Studies. Students may also enrol in one elective in the mornings as language classes take place every afternoon. The intensive language course is 12 credits.
  • Korean Language for General Purposes. This is an evening course open to all for 3 credits.
  • Korean Language and Culture – beginner course. Offered through the Department of Global Korean Studies this course focuses more on the cultural and societal aspects of Korea and covers Hangul (the Korean alphabet) and basic grammar and vocabulary for 3 credits.

Living Abroad

Student Residence

Students will live on campus at Sogang University in Gonzaga Hall, a modern residence designed to provide a safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment that supports both academic and social aspects of student life.

Conveniently located next to the university’s back gate, Gonzaga Hall is an international dormitory that houses up to 900 students from around the world, offering a vibrant, multicultural atmosphere. English is the primary language spoken within the residence, helping students feel at ease and connected from day one.

Seoul has major influence on the music and television world, being the home of K-pop music and world-famous Korean dramas such as Squid Games.

Originally from Brighton, U.K., I studied Law in London before  moving to Seoul in 2019 to work as an English teacher, before  joining the AIFS Abroad team in 2024. Living and working in  Seoul has been an incredible experience – I enjoy café-hopping  and discovering the city’s hidden gems in my spare time, from  quirky backstreet shops to vibrant local food markets.  I’m looking forward to introducing you students to the tradition  and culture of Korea, and to creating memorable experiences of  Korea together! 

The Program Director provides academic advice, introduces you to the community and handles communication with the University.

Sogang University Social Program

Sogang University, in partnership with AIFS Abroad, offers a dynamic social program designed to enrich your experience in Korea. Through a variety of cultural activities and excursions, you’ll have the opportunity to immerse yourself in Korean traditions, explore iconic destinations, and connect with fellow students from around the world.

Sample activities may include (subject to change):

  • Kimchi-making workshop
  • Traditional Korean stamp-making experience
  • Hanbok experience with a visit to Gyeongbokgung Palace
  • Excursion to the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ)
  • Museum visits highlighting Korea’s history, art, and cultural heritage
  • Participation in student clubs and societies, such as K-pop, basketball, taekwondo, and more!

Please note that activities and excursions are subject to availability and scheduling. Some experiences may require an additional participation fee.

Sogang University has a great range of sporting opportunities for students. You can get involved in athletics, swimming, soccer, rugby, basketball, taekwondo, hiking and more whether you want to play competitively or socially. Student sports clubs are open to all international students.

Included in your program fee are a range of day trips and excursions that will take you outside Seoul and deepen your social, historical and cultural understanding of South Korea. Previous excursions include:

Cultural Resources

One of the best things you can do before departure is enter into the journey knowing that your time abroad will be unique to this experience. Optional Travel Package

Participants can select an optional transportation package for all AIFS Abroad programs that includes a round-trip flight from 25 U.S gateways and airport transfers to and from campus. Participants who choose to book their own flights will be responsible for connecting with the group at the program location and will need to make their own ground transportation arrangements from the airport.

Below are fees by departure city based on average historical costs and subject to change. If you select this option on your application, the total travel package price will be confirmed approximately one month prior to departure. Your program fee is guaranteed, and the optional travel package is an additional fee. Please note that once we have finalized the pricing for your flights the cost may change, and you will be responsible for making the additional payment if you want to participate in the travel package. Your program advisor will be in touch should there be any changes in the price of your flights.
