Architecture

Beautiful architecture is abundant with it’s black and white, patterned stones also known as Portuguese pavement, adorning the sidewalks and public squares all over the city.  Lisbon is home to one UNESCO site, the Tower of Belém which was constructed in 1502.

Cuisine

Lisbon is home to one of the world’s most top secret recipes, the Pastéis da nata, a sweet creamy desert with a flaky crust adorned by locals and tourists alike.

AIFS in Lisbon Director, January Term Program

Sabrina Azevedo

Sabrina Azevedo.

Olá! Welcome to Lisbon! I’m Sabrina Azevedo. Originally from Brazil, I’ve spent the last 8 years living abroad, with 5 of those here in Lisbon.

I began my professional journey studying medicine in my hometown of Brasília, followed by a shift to Barcelona and then Lisbon to pursue my passion for photography.

Through my own experiences, I’ve come to deeply appreciate the value of studying and living abroad – It’s been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I love traveling and immersing myself in different cultures, and I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to help you explore and enjoy all that Lisbon has to offer.

Count on me for support, guidance, and insider tips to make the most of your time here!

The Program Director provides academic advice, introduces you to the community and handles communication with the University.

Learning does not begin or end in the classroom. To help you get a true taste of Portuguese culture, a wide range of cultural activities and excursions are included in your program fee. Activities and events will include:

  • Welcome lunch
  • Guided city tour
  • Visits to Sintra and Belém
  • Tour of the famous Lisbon market
  • Fado evening

Social identity & access

One of the best things you can do before departure is enter into the journey knowing that your time abroad will be unique to this experience. The resources, community, and support available to you when abroad will likely be different as well. In order to help you prepare for your experience, we have compiled many resources about social identity and access in specific locations abroad. Your program staff will also provide you with more details pre-departure and during orientation.
