Overview

Rome, the capital city of Italy, is also the 4th most populous city in the European Union and has a history that spans 28 centuries! It is home to rich culture and insanely beautiful, famous sites such as Vatican City and the Colosseum. Lose yourself in the winding streets of the Trastevere, explore ancient Roman ruins, visit world-renowned museums, and sample cuisines from all over Italy. There is something for everyone in Rome!

Many of the country’s largest corporations are headquartered in Rome, and it also has a thriving start-up business scene. As the business hub of Italy, Rome has a wide range of internship opportunities in Business, Marketing, Communications, Fashion, Art, Design, and Architecture. Familiarity with the Italian language is a plus, but most of our internships in Rome are for English speakers.

Over a period of 12 weeks, interns complete in-person, credit-bearing internships for 240 hours and enroll in Italian language and culture courses taught at the AIFS Abroad Rome Center and online. These courses are designed to help participants understand their host organizations and colleagues, as well as learn essential Italian phrases for daily interactions such as getting directions, ordering food, and engaging with local customs.

Make your resumé stand out with an international internship in Rome, Italy, this spring, summer, or fall and experience living and working abroad!

Living Abroad

AIFS Abroad provides excellent accommodations, activities, resources and staff to help interns learn about and integrate into their host community.

Apartment

Students live in apartments contracted by AIFS Abroad in lively, well-serviced neighborhoods, 10 – 40 minutes from the study center by foot or public transport. Most walk, but public transport options are nearby, along with markets, shops, and restaurants. The apartments are generally located in the central neighborhoods of Trastevere, Campo de’ Fiori, Prati, or Monti, enabling students to experience daily life in Rome like a local.

All apartments are fully furnished, and a standard consumption of utilities is included, with AIFS Abroad staff coordinating with property managers if issues arise.

Apartment designs, furnishings, layouts, and locations vary, since they are not U.S. style student residences. They typically house 3 – 8 AIFS Abroad students, with no more than three per bedroom. Students can indicate neighborhood and roommate preferences on their housing application, but final placement depends on availability and the application submission date.

All student housing is non-smoking and includes:

  • Easy access to public transport
  • Wi-Fi
  • Kitchens with utensils, cookware, and gas stoves
  • Shared bathroom (typically up to 4 students share one bathroom)
  • Washing machine, towels, and linens
  • AC
  • Maintenance support

Single rooms in apartments may be available for a supplement. Contact your Program Advisor for details.

OPTIONAL MEAL PLAN ($TBC)

A unique meal plan to subsidize the cost of living abroad and to learn how people in Italy eat with fresh, local produce.

Students receive grocery and meal vouchers to be used for one meal (lunch or dinner) five days per week for the entire duration of the program. The vouchers can be used in selected groceries, local restaurants, trattorias and pizzerias located near the apartments and the AIFS Abroad Center.

Price to be confirmed.

History

Founded in 735 BC, Rome is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in Europe. The entire city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and home to the Vatican, an independent country within the city. With its unparalleled wealth of history, archeology, art, religion and religious culture and delicious food, Rome has more to offer than any other city in the world. The Colosseum, Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, its gardens, parks and art, the world-famous film industry make Rome a city that fascinates with its unique beauty and mesmerizing atmosphere.

Population

Rome, with its population of over 4,000,000, is the capital of Italy and the fourth most populous city in the European Union. The charming eclectic culture of modern Rome is a result of diverse cultures and people who have made this city their home for years. Rome is a modern city that thrives in its cosmopolitan culture but still has a deep reverence to its past.
