No matter what you’re interested in, London has almost any sort of career field on demand for an internship. As a global center of finance, fashion, hospitality, marketing, and media, London has some of our best placements overall. Internships in the UK range between 8 to 12 weeks and take place in the summer, fall, and spring.

With easy access to the rest of Europe, there will always be something for you to do and see during your internship in “The Big Smoke”. Many of our interns become so enamored with the city that they end up returning after their program ends to study or work!

Placement Process

The AIFS Abroad Enrollment Team reviews application materials, which are a combination of relevant work experience, college or university level course work, and an assessment of maturity and readiness for working in a professional setting. After a participant has been accepted, we guarantee an internship placement. 

Our team works with applicants 1:1 to gain a better understanding of the skills you will bring to your team, talents you want to grow, and expectations you have of your experience. By working individually with each intern, we can assess academic knowledge, career goals, language proficiency, and overall expectations for your time in London, in order to place you in a dynamic work environment.

Once a match is found, all interns will interview by phone or Zoom with your manager before the placement is offered and confirmed. When you arrive in London, Location Coordinators will be there to help you start your internship and support you with on-site check-ins and coaching to make the most of your internship placement.

Credit

AIFS Abroad offers credit-bearing courses to complement your semester or summer internship, with credits issued through our School of Record, Fairfield University. Adding credit can allow interns to access existing financial aid options and gain credit towards graduation for many majors. This is suitable for interns who attend a university that does not offer credit for internships. Some universities will require credit, and we cannot change university requirements.

Population

London has a diverse range of peoples and cultures, and more than 300 languages are spoken within its boundaries. London had topped 9 million people in 2020.  

Culture

London is home to numerous museums, galleries, libraries, sporting events, and other cultural institutions, including the British Museum, National Gallery, Tate Modern, British Library, and 40 West End theaters. 

Transportation

London’s transportation system is also renowned, and the London Underground is the oldest underground railway network in the world. 

Shaania is AIFS Abroad’s London Placement Coordinator. Born and raised in London, Shaania is an expert in guiding and helping interns– from settling in their new city to finding all of the best spots that may have otherwise been missed! She enjoys exploring new cities, spending time with her dog, and cheering on her favorite team, Wolverhampton Wanderers.

In addition to day trips and excursions, a cultural calendar of weekly activities and social events is included in your program fee. These activities will include both typical tourist sites and attractions and lesser known visits which take advantage of the expert knowledge of our local AIFS Abroad staff and give you a more authentic and insightful view of life in England. Typical activities, tours and visits include:

This program offers a range of day trips and excursions that will take you outside London and deepen your social, historical, and cultural understanding of England. Previous excursions have included:

Stonehenge and Stourhead

Included in Program Fee
Visit the world-famous ancient site of Stonehenge where you can find out about the mysterious circumstances of its formation. The second visit of the day will be to the National Trust site of Stourhead, a beautiful 18th century landscape garden with lakeside walks, grottoes, classical temples, and Stourhead House, a mansion with a wonderful library and art collection.

Famous for the Battle of Hastings in 1066, this charming seaside town boasts rich history, beautiful pebble beaches, great food, a newly renovated pier, and lots of shops to visit.

Traveling to Your Destination

Please note that your program requires you to apply for and be awarded a visa for you to travel to your host country. AIFS Abroad does recommend waiting to purchase your flights until after you have your visa in hand. Due to the estimated visa timeline, we cannot meet the required timelines for the AIFS Abroad Travel Package. Therefore, the AIFS Abroad Travel Package is not available for this program and you are required to book your own travel upon receipt of your visa. Transport to and from the airport will be your responsibility.
