The AIFS Abroad Enrollment Team reviews application materials, which are a combination of relevant work experience, college or university level course work, and an assessment of maturity and readiness for working in a professional setting. After a participant has been accepted, we guarantee an internship placement. 

Our team works with applicants 1:1 to gain a better understanding of the skills you will bring to your team, talents you want to grow, and expectations you have of your experience. By working individually with each intern, we can assess academic knowledge, career goals, language proficiency, and overall expectations for your time in Buenos Aires, in order to place you in a dynamic work environment. 

Once a match is found, all interns will interview by phone or Zoom with your manager before the placement is offered and confirmed. The AIFS Abroad Internship Coordinator in Buenos Aires will help you start your internship and support you with on-site check-ins and coaching to make the most of your internship placement.

AIFS Abroad offers credit-bearing courses to complement your semester or summer internship, with credits issued through our School of Record, Fairfield University. Adding credit can allow interns to access existing financial aid options and gain credit towards graduation for many majors. This is suitable for interns who attend a university that does not offer credit for internships. Some universities will require credit, and we cannot change university requirements.

Living Abroad in Buenos Aires

AIFS Abroad provides excellent accommodations, activities, resources, and staff to help you learn about and integrate into your host community.

Choose between a homestay or a shared apartment.  

Homestay
Living with a homestay family is the best way to immerse yourself in the culture of Argentina and students choosing this option find that it is often the most rewarding part of their experience abroad.

  • Single Room. Two AIFS Abroad students may be placed in the same homestay.

Apartment
Apartments are shared with other AIFS Abroad participants.

Internet access is included in all AIFS Abroad housing in Buenos Aires. 

Language 
Spanish is the official language in Buenos Aires. 

Architecture
Must see architecture includes: the Avenida de Mayo with its European stylish quarter; the colorful La Boca; Recoleta area and cemetery; the modernist area of Puerto Madero; Barolo Palace (The Divine Comedy building); the magnificent building of Aguas Argentinas, the green streets in Belgrano and Palermo neighborhood; among too many others.

Program Coordinator – María Giorello 

I have a degree in Communications Sciences. Before going to study in Buenos Aires, the city I chose to live and raise my career and family, I lived in different parts of Argentina and also in the Netherlands for six months. I’m in charge of Student Services and I’m passionate about organizing cultural activities and offering the much-needed support during an experience abroad, helping you be successful and expand your knowledge of the world and your inner self. 

Internship Coordinator – Bárbara Botte 

I’m Barby, from Buenos Aires. I lived in the countryside for a few years and then returned, which gave me a new perspective on the city and everything it has to offer. I studied abroad in the US and the UK! And I’ve traveled all over the US, South America, and Europe. I love arts, theater, literature, and I’m a very sociable person who enjoys building community and creating strong bonds. 

A cultural calendar of weekly activities and social events is included in your program fee. These activities will include both typical tourist sites and attractions and lesser known visits which take advantage of the expert knowledge of our local AIFS Abroad staff and give you a more authentic and insightful view of life in Argentina.

This program offers a range of day trips and excursions that will take you outside Buenos Aires and deepen your social, historical and cultural understanding of Argentina. Previous excursions have included:

Visit to this UNESCO World Heritage Site with a guided tour of the barrio histórico and free time to explore. Includes round-trip transportation.

Tour of ranch with demonstrations of traditional gaucho skills and an opportunity to go horseback riding. Includes round-trip transportation and a parillada (Argentine barbecue) lunch.

Iguazú Falls (On the border of Argentina, Brazil, and Paraguay)

Free time to enjoy a boat ride, walking trails, Iguazú Falls’ eco-train, or to explore. Includes round-trip transportation, breakfast, and accommodations near the Falls.

Optional Travel Package

Participants can select an optional transportation package for all AIFS Abroad programs that includes a round-trip flight from 25 U.S gateways and airport transfers to and from campus. Participants who choose to book their own flights will be responsible for connecting with the group at the program location and will need to make their own ground transportation arrangements from the airport.

Below are fees by departure city based on average historical costs and subject to change. If you select this option on your application, the total travel package price will be confirmed approximately one month prior to departure. Your program fee is guaranteed, and the optional travel package is an additional fee. Please note that once we have finalized the pricing for your flights the cost may change, and you will be responsible for making the additional payment if you want to participate in the travel package. Your program advisor will be in touch should there be any changes in the price of your flights.
