AIFS Abroad Launches European Studies Winter Quarter Program in Salzburg
STAMFORD, Conn., – May, 8, 2025 – AIFS Abroad is expanding its offerings to include a new Winter Quarter program. This study abroad program is specifically designed for students at U.S. higher education institutions on the quarter system who typically face scheduling conflicts with traditional semester programs.
The Winter Quarter study abroad program is currently available in Salzburg, Austria, and centers on European Studies. Offering 12 semester credits through four courses taught in English, the structure includes one intensive course in January, followed by three additional courses spanning February and March. All academic credit is awarded by Fairfield University, AIFS Abroad’s School of Record.
With over 60 years of experience, AIFS Abroad brings established expertise to this new program format. Their longstanding presence in Salzburg and comprehensive support services ensure quarter system students will receive the same high-quality experience that has made AIFS a leader in international education.
According to the U.S. Department of State, over 300,000 US students study, intern, or volunteer abroad for academic credit each year. AIFS Abroad’s new Winter Quarter program opens those doors to students at the 40+ American colleges and universities operating on the quarter system, who have traditionally been underserved by semester-based programs.
Program components include:
- Courses in social sciences and the German language.
- Housing in shared residence halls
- Access to the AIFS Global Education Center in central Salzburg
- Academic and cultural support from on-site staff
- Optional excursions
The program will be led by Katharina Edtmayer, a native Austrian serving as the Salzburg Director, and Raphaela Behounek as Academic Director. Both will provide comprehensive
support for students throughout their time abroad.
Important Dates:
- Application Deadline: October 15, 2025
- Program Dates: January 6 – March 13, 2026
