At AIFS Abroad, we support all participants in your study/intern abroad journey, inclusive of your gender, race, religion, age, physical ability, and sexual orientation. Everyone has a complex identity, and the different aspects of your identity are important when deciding on a program and location. Exploring the identities you hold and learning about those of others is also an important part of this journey. Thus, we invite you to take the time to learn about all the identities amplified, as you never know who you will meet and connect with along your study/internship abroad journey.
We encourage you to use the information here as you review your options to select the program and location that best fits your interests and needs. If you do not hold the identities that are amplified, it is still a great resource for you as well. It will give you a better understanding of those who have this identity. We also encourage you to revisit these resources throughout your study/ intern abroad journey. Please also visit your university’s study abroad website and office, as they might have additional information and resources related to social identities and studying abroad.
While abroad, if you experience challenges related to your identity or want to talk to someone, we encourage you to connect with your Program Director or Location Coordinator in-country. They will be able to provide guidance and support to you as well as point you toward resources in your host country to assist with your experience.
If you would like to speak with AIFS Abroad alumni who share your social identities or one of our AIDE Advocates, please email us at alumni@aifs.com and let us know. We would be happy to connect you.
