AIFS offers several opportunities to work and study abroad on internship programs at international companies and organizations. Earn academic credit, diversify your work experience, and build your resumé while experiencing the benefits of study abroad! AIFS offers internships in London, Florence, Rome, Granada, San José, Wollongong, Sao Paulo, and Barcelona

Semester and Summer Internship in London, England

Richmond, The American International University in London

  • Internship Placement: 4 days a week for 8 weeks (semester or summer) in fields including: Advertising, Art and Design, Art History, Event Planning, Fashion and Beauty, Finance and Accounting, Legal, Marketing/Market Research, Media, Journalism and Publishing, Music, Non Profit/NGO, Politics and Government, PR/Communications, Psychology and Research and Theater/Theater Management
  • Earn up to 12 credits
  • Cultural activities such as a theater production visit, guided walking tour, a ride on the London Eye, and day trips to Cambridge and Stonehenge
  • Open to college juniors and seniors. Minimum 2.75 GPA, 3.0 for placements in finance or political science, 3.2 for placements in psychology. Additional criteria apply.

Semester Internship in Florence, Italy

Richmond, The American International University in London – Florence Campus

  • Internship Placement: 4 days a week for 12 weeks (6 credits) in fields including: Art History and History; Communications; Economics, Business and Fashion; and Education
  • Earn up to 16 credits
  • Take Italian language as well as one other course in the same field as the internship
  • Cultural activities such as visits to museums, art galleries, churches, theaters, course-related field trips, and excursions to Rome and Venice
  • Open to college juniors and seniors. Minimum 2.75 GPA. Additional criteria apply.

Summer Internship in Florence, Italy

Richmond, The American International University in London – Florence Campus

  • Summer Internship Placement: a minimum of 5 days a week for 7 weeks in the hospitality, tourism management, and Italian food and wine fields.
  • Students will take the Italian Food & Culture course alongside their professional internship placement.
  • Earn 6 total credits (3 credits for the Internship + 3 credits for the Italian Food & Culture course).
  • Cultural activities such as visits to museums, dinner with Italians, cooking and wine tasting classes, gelato tours, course-related field trips, and optional excursions to Rome and Venice
  • Open to students with a minimum of 45 completed credits by the start of the program. Minimum 2.75 GPA. Additional criteria apply.

Semester Internship in Rome, Italy

Richmond, The American International University in London – Rome Campus

  • Internship Placement: 11 weeks (6 credits) in fields including: Communications , Media and Visual Culture; Global Compentency; European Politics; Food and Mediterranean Studies; Social Sciences
  • Earn 16 credits
  • Take Italian language as well as one other course in the same field as the internship
  • Cultural activities such as visits to museums, art galleries, churches, theaters, course-related field trips, and excursions to Venice, Naples, and Pompeii
  • Open to college sophomores, juniors and seniors. Minimum 2.75 GPA. Additional criteria apply.

Semester Internship in Granada, Spain

University of Granada

  • Internship Placement: 45 hours (3 credits) in fields including Communications, Internet Design, Graphic Design, Video Production, Nutrition and Renewable Energies
  • Open to Intermediate, Advanced, and Superior level Spanish students
  • Earn up to 15 semester credits (3-credit Internship placement, plus Spanish language courses and other courses from the regular Granada program)
  • Cultural activities such as guided tours of the Alhambra and Albaicin, tapas with Spanish students, hiking in the Sierra Nevada, an afternoon at the Arabic Baths, a 3-day visit to Gibraltar, Seville and Cordoba and a day trip to the Costa del Sol

Semester Internship in San José, Costa Rica

Veritas University, San José

  • Internship Placement: 30 or 40 hours a week for 8 weeks (4 or 6 credits) in fields including: Advertising Design, Animal or Veterinary Science, Archaeology, Arts, Communication Science, Cooperatives, Economic Sciences, Education, Engineering, Environmental Science, Molecular Biology and Conservation, and Tourism
  • Earn up to 20 semester credits (Internship is worth 4-6 credits)
  • Cultural activities such as tours in and around San José, tropical dance lessons, visits to local attractions including museums and markets, theater performance and concerts
  • Open to college sophomores and juniors. Minimum 2.6 GPA. Students must be 20 years of age by the start of the internship and must have a high intermediate or advanced level of Spanish to participate in the Internship program.

Semester Internship in Wollongong, Austrailia

University of Wollongong (UOW)

  • Internship Placement: 16 days in an organization selected by the faculty of business in addition to classroom-based learning and in-class assessments
  • Earn up to 3 semester credits
  • Students accepted onto this program are required to enroll in at least one other subject from the faculty of Business along with COMM 391 plus one or two more subjects to make up a full time study load
  • Open to college sophomore and junior Business or Commerce majors. Minimum 2.7 GPA.

Semester Internship in Sao Paulo, Brazil

Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado (FAAP)

  • Internship Placement: Offered in the fields of business, environmental studies, marketing and many more. Internships are generally for 20 hours a week
  • Earn up to 18 semester credits
  • In addition to the internship placement students should still take four courses from the Brazilian Studies program
  • Open to students who already have a higher level of Portuguese language. Minimum 2.5 GPA.

Spring Semester Internship in Barcelona, Spain

The Universidad Pompeu Fabra (UPF)

  • Internship Placement:The International Business Program is jointly offered by the ESCI-UPF International Business School and the UPF Education Abroad Program
  • Earn up to 15 semester credits
  • In addition to the internship placement students should still take four courses from the Brazilian Studies program
  • All students who complete the ESCI-UPF International Business Program will be awarded a joint certificate from the ESCI International Business School and the UPF Education Abroad Program attesting that they have successfully completed at least two international business courses
  • The program includes courses taught in English and Spanish. Students wishing to take courses taught in Spanish should have completed at least four semesters of college level Spanish
  • The International Management course is mandatory. Students must also take at least one of the following business program courses: International Finance, International Economics, Doing Business in Europe and Corporate Finance. Students can then choose their remaining two or three courses from the Spanish language courses, the HESP content courses, or the ESCI-UPF undergraduate course offerings
  • Open to undergraduate juniors and seniors with a major or minor in business. Minimum 3.0 GPA; Spanish language not required.
