AIFS in Barcelona Resident Director, Summer Program

AIFS Resident Director

¡Hola! I have been working with AIFS since 1998 beginning in my home town of Granada. I have been Resident Director of the Barcelona program since it began in summer 2003. I studied abroad in England and loved getting to know people from other cultures; it certainly made me more confident and independent. In my spare time I love planning trips to new cities, when I am not designing my own custom jewelry!

My favorite aspect of being Resident Director is spending time with students and seeing how much they grow after their study abroad experience in Spain. The AIFS Barcelona team is always eager to offer our guidance and support, as well as share ideas on how to make the most out of your stay. Barcelona is a beautiful and fascinating city; perfect for a study abroad program, not just because of its proximity to the beach!

I look forward to helping you to live as a local and to begin one of the most rewarding experiences of your life!

The Resident Director provides academic advice, introduces you to the community and handles communication with the University.

AIFS Campus Staff with First Aid Training

Because health and safety are top priorities at AIFS, at least one member of the staff at this campus has taken a first aid course in order to be available to help any student until a doctor or nurse can provide help. This is just one of many services that we provide to our students.

Housing and Meals

Homestay – This option is FULL

  • The standard program fee includes housing in a Spanish homestay. This is the best way to improve your Spanish and immerse yourself in Spanish life and culture. You will share a room with another AIFS student.

  • For a supplement of $1,195 you can stay in a shared apartment in a centrally-located neighborhood of Barcelona. Living with up to 5 other AIFS students, you will share a double room and have access to a communal kitchen, living area and bathroom(s). Apartments are fully furnished and are typically located in popular areas such as L’Eixample, Sagrada Família and Poble Nou. Internet access is included.

Student Residence (The student residence option is now full.)

  • For a supplement of $1,195 you will live in a student residence situated in the downtown neighborhood of L’Eixample. The residence is near several bus lines and metro stops, providing easy access to the University (and the beach!) in less than 30 minutes. You will live in a single room equipped with a bathroom and shared kitchen area. You will have access to a small gym and pool and there is a laundry room on site.

  • Homestay students receive breakfast and dinner seven days a week. Apartment and residence students receive a meal allowance of $400 to subsidize the cost of purchasing meals and groceries which students find very helpful when budgeting for food. Students can prepare their own meals in the kitchen facilities provided. AIFS staff will give you tips and advice on cheap places to eat out and low-cost supermarkets in Barcelona.

Cultural Activities

Learning does not begin or end in the classroom. To help you get a true taste of Spanish culture, a wide range of cultural activities and excursions are included in your program fee. The Resident Director organizes a variety of activities which usually include:

  • Welcome dinner of tapas and paella - get to know your fellow AIFSers and the AIFS staff in Barcelona

Walking tours of Barcelona including:

  • Gothic and Jewish Quarter tour
  • Panoramic tour of the city and the Sagrada Família basilica

Visits to museums and monuments such as:

  • The Cathedral of Barcelona and Gaudí’s Park Güell
  • Salvador Dalí Museum and Montserrat
  • Joan Antonio Samaranch Olympic and Sports Museum

Please note that students may need to pay a small additional fee for some of the activities above.
