Overview

Spend a summer studying and traveling through iconic cities in Europe with AIFS! Spend 5 nights in London, 4 nights in Paris, 2 nights in Nice, 2 nights in Milan, 2 nights in Venice, 4 nights in Florence and 3 nights in Rome studying the masterpieces of art history.

Academics

AIFS Abroad offers a unique global educational experience for students on this program, with the following academic options available:

Academic credit for the program is awarded by Fairfield University. Fairfield University is a private Jesuit university founded in 1942 in Fairfield, Connecticut, well known for their commitment to international education. Fairfield is a fully accredited university and member of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. 

In 2020 Fairfield and AIFS partnered to develop a school of record relationship that will allow academic credit to be available for both Fairfield and non-Fairfield students. 

Course syllabi and faculty credentials are reviewed and approved by Fairfield University.

This program serves as a contextual introduction to European art, architecture and cultural history. Supplementing classroom-based learning with extensive visits to museums, galleries and places of historical interest it offers a survey of art in Europe over the last two centuries and gives students an opportunity to see for themselves many of the works studied.

Living Abroad

Day 1Optional overnight flight from U.S. to London* 
Day 2Arrive in London. Transfers for group flights. Rest of day free. 
Day 3Morning orientation followed by a sightseeing tour with a professional guide. See London’s famous sights including Piccadilly Circus in the heart of the West End, the Houses of Parliament on the banks of the Thames and Buckingham Palace, plus an inside visit to Westminster Abbey. 
Day 4Morning class. Afternoon visit to the British Museum. 
Day 5Morning visit to the Tate Modern. Afternoon visit to the National Gallery. 
Day 6Morning class. Afternoon free. 
Day 7Morning class. Transfer to Paris by Eurostar and check into hotel. Balance of day free. 
Day 8Morning class. Afternoon visit to the D’Orsay Museum.

Day 15Morning guided visit to the Brera Museum. Afternoon transfer to Venice by train. 
Day 16Morning sightseeing walking tour of Venice including the Bridge of Sighs, St. Mark’s Square and entrance to the Church of Frari. Afternoon class. 
Day 17Morning visit to the Guggenheim Museum, which holds an important collection of modern art, including works by Picasso, Miró, Kandinsky and Pollock. Afternoon transfer to Florence by train. 
Day 18Morning class. Free afternoon. 
Day 19Morning class. Afternoon guided tour of the Uffizi Gallery. 
Day 20Morning Class. Afternoon visit to the Accademia Gallery, home of Michelangelo’s David. 
Day 21Morning transfer to Rome by train or private bus. Afternoon visit to the Vatican Museums.
