Overview

A semester at the University of Sydney with AIFS Abroad brings new meaning to “once in a lifetime.” Choose from a wide range of Humanities, Social Science and STEM courses at Australia’s oldest and most prestigious university. Pursue hands on learning through a fall semester business consulting practicum in their AACSB accredited business school or complete a credit bearing internship in various fields to accompany your classes. In your free time, explore Sydney and its surroundings, from world class museums and art galleries to the best fresh food and exciting nightlife, festivals, theater and sports events.

Visa Requirements

Students must obtain a mandatory visa for entry into Australia. After acceptance AIFS will provide detailed visa information and the official documents required for students to apply for the visa. Students will apply directly with the Australian consulate.

Living Abroad

STUDENT APARTMENTS

Situated a 10–15-minute flat walk from the University of Sydney Campus with student life in mind, the student accommodation is safe and comfortable:

Internet access is included in all AIFS housing in Sydney.

Geography

With its excellent beaches and year-round mild weather, Sydney is the perfect place to try surfing, sailing, stand up paddle boarding, and other aquatic activities.

Sydney is the most populous city in Australia with over 4.6 million inhabitants with approximately 28% of the population was born elsewhere. Sydney is a consistently high-ranking world city for quality of life.

Environmental Focus

The City of Sydney introduced a Sustainable Sydney 2030 program, with various targets planned and a guide on how to reduce energy in homes and offices by 30%. The city also has an “urban forest growth strategy” which aims to increase the tree coverage in the city by planting trees and vegetation to provide cleaner air and create moisture during hot weather, thus lowering city temperatures.

Andrea Hay

Andrea is the Sydney Director of Internships and Study Abroad. Andrea moved to Australia at age 11. After graduating from RMIT in Melbourne, Australia, Andrea moved to Washington, D.C., where she worked at the Australian Embassy and later at the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies. In her free time, Andrea enjoys running, yoga, traveling, and spending time with her family and 2 year old spoodle.

The Program Director provides academic advice, introduces you to the community and handles communication with the University.

The University of Sydney organizes a variety of social events to help you make the most of campus life and support you on your health, wellbeing and academic journey. Some activities may require an additional fee.

There is a an extensive sporting / sporting facility culture on campus that include options that are competitive or social. Most student residences also offer onsite gym facilities.  

Excursions

Previous excursions have included a range of day trips that will take you outside Sydney. We will confirm which ONE will run closer to the program start date.

Port Stephens

Visit to Gan Gan Lookout viewing point, dolphin cruise, sandboarding, camel ride and visit to Stockton Beach. Includes round-trip transportation.

Royal National Park

Private day trip to the Royal National Park. Visit the Royal National Park south of Sydney and spend the day in doing a bushwalk, swimming at Wattamolla Beach and driving over the Sea Cliff Bridge.

Social identity & access

One of the best things you can do before departure is enter into the journey knowing that your time abroad will be unique to this experience. Your program staff will also provide you with more details pre-departure and during orientation.

  • **** AIFS Abroad offers visa processing services to applicants who enroll into the program by this date. All other applicants who enroll after this date will be responsible for securing their own visa with guidance from AIFS Abroad.

Optional Flight Package

Participants can select an optional transportation package for all AIFS Abroad programs that includes a round-trip flight from 25 U.S gateways and airport transfers to and from campus. Participants who choose to book their own flights will be responsible for connecting with the group at the program location and will need to make their own ground transportation arrangements from the airport.

Below are fees by departure city based on average historical costs and subject to change. If you select this option on your application, the total flight package price will be confirmed approximately one month prior to departure. Your program fee is guaranteed, and the optional flight package is an additional fee. Please note that once we have finalized the pricing for your flights the cost may change, and you will be responsible for making the additional payment if you want to participate in the flight package. Your program advisor will be in touch should there be any changes in the price of your flights.
