AIFS Chairman Receives IIE Centennial Medal

WASHINGTON, D.C.; Thursday, May 30, 2019 – William L. Gertz, Chairman and CEO of the American Institute For Foreign Study (AIFS), last night received the Institute of International Education’s (IIE) Centennial Medal, which honors the leadership and achievements of individuals that have made outstanding contributions to international education.

The medal was presented to Mr. Gertz last night during “An Evening with IIE: A Centennial Celebration,” an IIE-hosted reception at The Hay-Adams to commemorate their 100th anniversary, part of the National Association of Foreign Student Advisers’ (NAFSA) Annual Conference and Expo, taking place this week in Washington, D.C. Presenting the award to Mr. Gertz was IIE President and CEO, Dr. Allan Goodman. 

In his more than 40 years of experience in international education, Mr. Gertz has led many initiatives that have been instrumental to the growth and evolution of the industry. He organized the Diversity in International Education workshop in 2010 and received an Honorary Doctorate in International Relations from Richmond, the American International University in London. Mr. Gertz has also worked extensively as a member of several boards and coalitions and formerly served as Chair of the Alliance for International Exchange.

“I am very pleased to be awarded this medal which is one of the highlights of my career,” remarked Gertz. “I thank IIE and Dr. Goodman for our long, successful partnership.”

Founded in 1964, AIFS is a global cultural and educational exchange organization headquartered in Stamford, CT.

In honor of their 100th anniversary in 2019, IIE will be awarding Centennial Medals throughout the year to key partners whose support, commitment and wisdom have been invaluable. IIE will be recognizing those who have contributed to the field of international education through government service; academic exchange leadership; global mobility leadership; philanthropic excellence; and corporate support for advancement of international education and relations.
