Theresa Johansson
Director, Global Education Office
Theresa Johansson leads the dedicated Global Education Office staff in promoting the institution’s internationalization goals, with a focus on inclusion, diversity and equity of access to international education experiences. Her office is responsible for administrative oversight of VT’s exchange partnerships, global safety and risk management, faculty-led program support from inception to implementation, ARO services for inbound exchange students, scholarship support for study abroad, and campus Fulbright coordination.
She has worked in international education for over 33 years as an instructor of Italian, administrator for overseas study programs, international partnership manager, and faculty support and development specialist. Johansson is familiar with Virginia’s public higher education system, having worked for her entire career at the College of William & Mary and Virginia Tech.
Her responsibilities at William & Mary included advising students for study abroad, managing bilateral exchange agreements and W&M-sponsored semester programs, overseeing student selection for semester study abroad programs, assisting with new program development, leading faculty training workshops, serving as coordinator and advisor for non-degree-seeking exchange students, and managing W&M’s substantial study abroad scholarship portfolio.
