Each year, more than $600,000 in scholarships and grants is awarded to deserving students. Funds are available for both summer and semester programs.

Semester Scholarships and Grants

Affiliate Grants

Over 200 colleges and universities are affiliated with AIFS, which helps make the process of applying for an AIFS program easy, and may provide access to special affiliate scholarships. Students from affiliate institutions may automatically receive $400 grants for semester programs and $200 grants for summer programs. Others may apply for scholarships administered by their study abroad office.

$1,000 Grants for Spring/Fall 2013

Select colleges are offering a special $1,000 grant to use toward specific AIFS Spring and Fall 2013 programs. To find out if your institution offers the $1,000 grant and which programs are eligible, log in to the AIFS Student Portal.

 

Semester Program Grants

AIFS often offers grants to students attending specific programs each summer and semester term. To find out which programs are currently offering scholarships, visit the Program Grant Page.

 

AIFS International Scholarships

Each semester AIFS offers 40 scholarships of $1,000 to students who demonstrate high academic achievement and write an essay addressing “How study abroad will impact my academic and personal growth.”

To be considered, you must submit the AIFS scholarship application, the program application, the required application fee of $95, official transcripts of all college records to date and an academic reference.

Completed scholarship and program applications must be postmarked by April 15 for Academic Year/Fall Quarter/Fall Semester or September 15 for Spring Quarter/Spring Semester. Students must meet the minimum requirements for the program to which they are applying, have at least a 3.0 minimum cumulative GPA, show leadership potential and be involved in extracurricular activities centered on multicultural or international issues.

Study Again with AIFS Grants

If you studied abroad on an AIFS summer program, you will receive a $1000 grant to study abroad on an AIFS semester or academic year catalog program, or a $500 grant toward a summer catalog program.

If you studied abroad on an AIFS semester or academic year program, you will receive a $500 grant toward a summer catalog program or a $1000 grant toward a semester program in a different academic year.

Completed grant and program applications must be postmarked by April 15 for Academic Year/Fall Quarter/Fall Semester or September 15 for Spring Quarter/Spring Semester.

AIFS-HACU Scholarships

The purpose of the program is to provide up to $50,000 in scholarships for outstanding Hispanic students to study abroad with AIFS. This special scholarship will be available to students attending HACU member schools. To find out more about HACU, visit www.hacu.net .

Scholarship winners can study for a semester (Fall or Spring) on any AIFS program.

Awards/Eligibility: Students will receive scholarships of up to 50% of the full program fee. Students must meet all standard AIFS eligibility requirements.

Awards will be made by AIFS in conjunction with its Advisory Board.

Completed scholarship and program applications must be postmarked by April 15 for Academic Year/Fall Quarter/Fall Semester or September 15 for Spring Quarter/Spring Semester.

AIFS-NAFEO Scholarships

AIFS and the National Association For Equal Opportunity in Higher Education are working together to provide scholarships for outstanding students at black colleges to study abroad with AIFS. These special scholarships will be available to students attending NAFEO member institutions. To find out more about NAFEO visit www.nafeo.org.

Scholarship winners can study for a semester (Fall or Spring) on any AIFS program.

Awards/Eligibility: Awarded students will receive 50% of the AIFS all-inclusive program fee. Students must meet all standard AIFS eligibility requirements. Students are advised to work with their home institution's study abroad coordinator and their academic advisor to facilitate the transfer of academic credit.

Awards will be made by AIFS in conjunction with NAFEO.

Completed scholarship and program applications must be postmarked by April 15 for Academic Year/Fall Quarter/Fall Semester or September 15 for Spring Quarter/Spring Semester.

Gilman Scholarship Bonus – $500 Grants

AIFS will award an additional $500 to each student who receives a Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship and uses it toward an AIFS semester or academic year catalog program. More information about Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarships is available at www.iie.org/gilman.

 

DiversityAbroad.com Scholarship – sponsored by the AIFS Foundation

DiversityAbroad.com, in cooperation with the AIFS Foundation, will offer five $500 scholarships per semester for study abroad in Spring and Fall 2012.  Scholarships are available for students studying abroad for a semester in 2012 on any program offered by a DiversityAbroad.com member organization. African-American, Asian-American, Hispanic/Latino and Native-American students are strongly encouraged to apply. Visit www.diversityabroad.com/scholarships for more information.

 

Diversity Abroad Achievement Scholarship – offered by AIFS

Each semester, AIFS offers up to 10 semester scholarships of $1000 to outstanding students from under-represented groups. Applicants must demonstrate high academic achievement and/or participate in community service activities.

Fulbright Summer Institute Scholarship

Each year the U.S.-U.K. Fulbright Commission offers special Summer Institutes which give U.S. undergraduates the opportunity to attend an academic program at a highly regarded U.K. University. The AIFS Globe Education Theater program was honored to be selected as a Fulbright Summer Institute for 2012 and hopes to continue this prestigious relationship in 2013.

Scholarship winners will study for a summer session at the London Globe Education Theater program.
