Gain professional, hands-on experience with an AIFS Abroad internship in New York City through our tailored and inclusive program. New York City, as a major international city, has internship opportunities for everyone with top career fields including business, fashion, marketing, media, and so much more!
During your internship in NYC, the fast-paced city that never sleeps, there’s always something to see, an event to experience, and a memory to make. Each year our interns fall in love with New York City and find out why it’s considered the greatest city on earth. New York City is one of our most popular internship locations, so early applications are encouraged!

Credit
Credit can be obtained through our School of Record, Fairfield University
Earn up to 12 credits during the summer or semester
Some universities require credit to be earned, and we cannot change a university’s requirement
Living Abroad
AIFS Abroad provides excellent accommodations, activities, resources, and staff to help interns learn about and integrate into their host community.
Housing
Student Accommodation
- Shared room (either twin or bunks) with en suite bathroom
- Centrally located: 1 minute walk to public transportation, shops, restaurants, and nightlife
- Fridge and microwave provided
- Kitchen on the main floor with 12 4-burner stoves
- 24/7 front desk service and security. RA on duty during business hours
- Student lounge equipped with smart TVs, a study room, Amazon delivery lockers
- Access to fitness center right next door
City Facts
Population
The population of NYC is around 8.5 million people speaking as many as 800 different languages, making it the most linguistically diverse city in the world.
Food
The first pizzeria in the United States was opened in 1905 and it is still open today.
Site Staff
Hailey is the New York City Program Manager for AIFS Abroad. Hailey spent a summer studying in Madrid, Spain while studying at Virginia Tech, and had the opportunity to travel to Switzerland and France. She loves the ability to combine her passions for travel and higher education to help interns grow professionally in an international setting. She holds two Bachelor’s degrees in International Studies and Spanish.
Cultural Activities
In addition to day trips and excursions, a cultural calendar of weekly activities and social events is included in your program fee. These activities will include both typical tourist sites and attractions as well as lesser known visits which take advantage of the expert knowledge of our local AIFS Abroad staff and give you a more authentic and insightful view of life in the United States. Typical activities, tours, and visits include:

- Walking Food Tour
- Picnic Lunch
- Statue of Liberty
- Ellis Island
- Group Dinner
You may be asked to pay a small supplementary fee for some events.

Social identity & access
One of the best things you can do before departure is enter into the journey knowing that your time abroad will be unique to this experience. The resources, community, and support available to you when abroad will likely be different as well.
