Hosgeldiniz! Welcome to Istanbul! As an Istanbul native, I relocated to my hometown after receiving my PhD in Political Science from Central European University in Budapest, Hungary and have lectured in international relations and served as an administrator at various Turkish, European and U.S. universities.

My ideas about the ever-changing world were formed by my study abroad experience in the U.S., Hungary and the U.K.

Istanbul is the perfect place to observe change as it happens and witness events that will influence your future careers as global citizens, studying at a world class university perched at the waters dividing Asian and European continents!

The Resident Director provides academic advice, introduces you to the community and handles communication with the University.

Housing and Meals

Housing

  • You will live in a residence hall which has suites of 2 to 5 single rooms with a shared lounge, limited kitchen area and bathroom. There is free Internet access in each room. There is a laundry service that will wash clothes and bedding for a small fee. The residence also has a convenience store, café and TV/social room with a pool table.

Meals

  • You will receive an allowance towards the purchase of breakfast and one other meal Monday through Friday. This is a subsidy and will not cover the cost of meals in expensive restaurants. For lunch, students tend to gather at one of the University restaurants or go to the cafeteria in the residence hall.

Transportation

You can easily walk from the residence hall to all campus facilities. Alternatively, there is a free shuttle bus to and from the dorm. Boğaziçi University is on top of a hill in Etiler above the harbor in Bebek. It is approximately 30 minutes by bus from central Istanbul. A newly opened metro stop for the University links to all of the other metro lines and trams in Istanbul. You will receive a transportation pass which you can use to travel around Istanbul.

Cultural Activities

Learning does not begin or end in the classroom. To help you get a true taste of Turkish life, the AIFS Resident Director organizes activities both on campus and in Istanbul and the surrounding area. This includes walking tours and activities such as:

Visits to:

  • Hagia Sofia
  • Topkapi Palace
  • Princes’ Islands
  • Istanbul Modern Museum
  • Blue Mosque
  • Local beaches
  • Farewell boat trip on the Bosphorus

Boğaziçi University has a beach on the Black Sea, half an hour away by bus.

Boğaziçi International Student Association also organizes a welcome party and various social events throughout the summer.

Please note that students may need to pay a small additional fee for some of the activities above.

Sports

Boğaziçi University campus has an indoor swimming pool and fitness center as well as a sports complex. There is also a running track at the residence hall.
