Optional overnight flight from the U.S. to London.*

Saturday, May 28

Arrive London. Transfer to accommodation.* Free time to settle in and evening group welcome meal.

London, the capital city of England and largest city in the U.K., is one of the oldest and most important cultural, political and educational centers of the world. Home to the National Health Service, it is a city of ideas and innovation. One of the most diverse cities on Earth, London has everything and something for everyone.

Sunday, May 29

Morning orientation with AIFS staff followed by introductory class. Afternoon sightseeing tour of London.

Monday, May 30

Morning class: The emergence of wellbeing and mental health as a concept. Afternoon visit to the Human Biology gallery of the Natural History Museum.

Tuesday, May 31

Morning class: The economics and funding for mental health and wellbeing. Afternoon visit to a mental health charity with lecture about their work and Q&A.

Wednesday, June 1

Morning class: Psychology and neuropsychology theories. Afternoon visit to the Freud Museum.

Thursday, June 2

Morning class: Social behavior theories and the U.K. healthcare system. Afternoon visit to the Bethlem Royal Hospital, a psychiatric hospital and the first institute to specialize in mental health care in the U.K.

Friday, June 3

Study day.

Saturday, June 4

Morning flight to Stockholm and check into accommodation. Afternoon guided walking tour of Stockholm’s Old Town.

Embracing nature and living well is a Scandi way of life and nowhere exemplifies this better than Stockholm - known by the locals as ‘Beauty on Water.’ Comprising 14 islands which are easy to access by bridge, ferry and Metro it is a fascinating city to explore and includes one of Europe’s best kept historic centers. Sweden is a driving force in design and famous for its love of understated, functional style which is evident throughout the city. It also has an abundance of nature reserves, parks and green spaces to enjoy.

Sunday, June 5

Morning class: The environment, greenspace and wellbeing. Afternoon guest lecture with an outdoor therapist.

Monday, June 6

Morning class: Creativity and wellbeing. Afternoon study time.

Tuesday, June 7

Guest lecture on mental health with a local organization. Afternoon class: Therapies and tools for managing wellbeing and mindfulness.

Wednesday, June 8

Study day.

Thursday, June 9

Departure to Copenhagen by train. Transfer to accommodation.

Copenhagen, the capital city of Denmark, was originally a Viking fishing village in the 10th century. Cosmopolitan and vibrant, the city is famous for its historical center, Tivoli Gardens, Nyhavn Canal and Royal Quarter and Hans Christian Andersen. Synonymous with the “Hygge” concept, Copenhagen often finds itself listed in various rating systems as one of the happiest cities in the world.

Friday, June 10

Morning class: Applying wellness methods in research. Afternoon visit to Happiness Institute for guest lecture on Wellbeing Methods in Research and wellbeing in individuals and society.

Saturday, June 11

Morning class presentations. Afternoon walking tour on theme of “hygge”.

Sunday, June 12

Morning class: Similarities and differences in the approach to wellbeing in the U.K. and Scandinavia. Afternoon study time.

Monday, June 13

Study day.

Tuesday, June 14

Morning exam. Free afternoon. Evening group farewell meal.

Wednesday, June 15

Optional return flight from Copenhagen to the U.S.*
