Study Abroad in Salamanca: Cultural Excursions

London, England (2 nights)

Included for students on the optional AIFS Flight Package.

Get to know your fellow students before traveling to campus and take a sightseeing tour with a professional guide who will point out some of London’s famous landmarks including Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, the Houses of Parliament and the Tower of London. You will also have free time to visit museums, see a play or stroll in London’s beautiful parks.

Includes accommodations, breakfast and sightseeing as indicated. Lunch and dinner are not included.

Madrid (1 night)

Included for students on the optional AIFS Flight Package

Fly from London to Madrid and spend the night in the capital, a city that knows how to live.

The next day, take a sightseeing tour of the main sites including the Plaza Mayor, Puerta del Sol and the Prado Museum before transferring by bus to Salamanca.

Includes transportation, accommodations, breakfast and sightseeing.

Avila (day trip)

Included in program fee for Session 1 and Combined session students

Visit one of the most beautiful towns in Spain which is also a UNESCO World Heritage site. Set in the rolling hills northwest of Madrid, Ávila is best known for its spectacular, intact medieval walls with over 80 towers and 9 gates. Walk the walls and visit the beautiful Gothic cloisters of the Cathedral or simply soak up the atmosphere on a stroll through the streets before returning to Salamanca in the early evening.

Segovia (day trip)

Included in program fee for Sessions 2 and 3 and Combined Session students

Visit Segovia, a UNESCO World Heritage site and home to an ancient Roman aqueduct. More than 2,000 years old and still functional, the aqueduct and the Roman engineering required to build it remain striking. Walk through cobblestone streets toward the fairytale castle, El Alcazar; from its tower enjoy great views of Segovia and the Storks nests that are scattered among chimneys and church spires.

Mogarraz, La Alberca and Riomalo (day trip)

Included in program fee for Session 2 and 3 and Combined sessions

Visit the quaint villages of Mogarraz and La Alberca, two of the most beautiful pueblos in Spain. La Alberca was the first to be declared a “national monument” in 1940. After, enjoy Riomalo’s natural pools; go swimming, picnic and relax by the river. Evening return to Salamanca.

Optional excursion to Lisbon, Portugal (3 days – $495)

Available to Session 2, Session 3 and Combined sessions students only on Friday, July 14 to Sunday, July 16

Depart for Lisbon stopping on the way to see the Boca do Inferno, (Hell’s Mouth), a natural cavern in the cliffs along the stunning coastline. Free evening to explore Lisbon’s lively nightlife.

The next day, visit the sights of Lisbon with a local guide including the colorful and quaint Alfama district, the Monument of the Discoverers, Rossio Square, the sweeping suspension bridge, and Jeronimos Monastery and Tower of Belem. Afternoon free to wander the cobbled alleys and squares of old Lisbon or go to the beach.

On day three, take a morning excursion to the Portuguese coast, visiting Estoril and the fishing village of Cascais with free time to enjoy the beaches before returning to Salamanca. The hotel will be either in Lisbon or in Carcavelos, a nice beach close to Lisbon.

Fee includes transportation, accommodations, breakfast, sightseeing and entrances as indicated. Students must enroll and pay for this excursion by April 1. Students who apply after the deadline may enroll subject to availability. If a minimum enrollment of 15 is not achieved, the tour may be cancelled. Once paid for in the U.S. optional excursions are non-refundable except in the event of cancellation.
