Study Abroad in Granada: Cultural Excursions

London, England (2 nights)

Included only for students on the optional AIFS Flight Package for Session 2, Session 3, Session 4 and Session 2+4

Get to know your fellow students before traveling to campus and take a sightseeing tour with a professional guide who will point out some of London’s famous landmarks including Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, the Houses of Parliament and the Tower of London. You will also have free time to visit museums, see a play or stroll in London’s beautiful parks.

Includes accommodations, breakfast and sightseeing as indicated. Lunch and dinner are not included.

Alhambra and Generalife Gardens (half day)

The Alhambra (meaning ‘Red Fortress’) is one of Europe’s architectural gems and a breathtaking example of medieval Islamic and Moorish art. (The Northwestern African Muslims who conquered most of Spain in the 8th Century were known as Moors). Its palaces and buildings tell the story of Spain’s Muslim conquest and Christian reconquest and include the 14th century Palacio Nazaries and the Renaissance style Palacio de Carlos V. From intricately carved ceilings and doorways to patios, reflective pools, fountains and courtyards, there is something to discover around every corner. The enchanting and calming gardens of the Generalife lead to the emirs’ summer palace and are a great place to stop for a while.

Seville and Córdoba (2 days)

Included in program fee for students on Session 2 and Session 3

Depart by bus for Seville. Take a stroll in the beautiful Maria Luisa park, then take a tour with a local guide to the Cathedral and visit the tomb of Christopher Columbus followed by a climb to the top of the 26-story Giralda tower for a magnificent view of the city. Walk through the Santa Cruz neighborhood and tour the Alcazar, a Mudejarstyle palace of the King of Spain, and its beautiful gardens.

The next day, depart for the ancient city of Córdoba where you will visit the Cathedral (former mosque) and the ancient synagogue before returning to Granada by bus.

Costa del Sol (day trip)

Enjoy a relaxing day trip to the picturesque town of Nerja on Europe’s most famous coastline and experience the delights of the Mediterranean Sea.

Includes transportation.

Optional excursion to Tangier and Tetouan, Morocco (3 days – $495)

Available to students taking Session 2, and Session 3

Early departure from Granada to Tarifa. Travel in a fast ferry to Tangier, Morocco. Visit to the Cape Spartel, caves of Hercules and a short stop will be made for a camel ride and then on to visit the medina and the souk of Tangier. Dinner and night in hotel in Tangier.

After breakfast in the hotel, take a tour of Tetouan including Plaza Moulay El Mehdi, Plaza Hassan I and the Royal Palace. Continue on to the Mellah or Jewish neighborhood and to the medina and souks. Time to sample and shop in the crafts, goods and food markets. Continue on to the mountain town of Chaouen. Lunch in a typical restaurant followed by free time for shopping and bartering. Walking tour of the Alcazaba fortress and the medina. Dinner and show and night in hotel.

On the last morning, depart Tangier for the coastal town of Asilah. Visit the city medina and walls. Free time for lunch before departure. Afternoon ferry to Tarifa and late return to Granada by bus.

Fee includes transportation, hotel accommodation (triple rooms), breakfasts, most lunches and most dinners, tour director and local guide in English and excursions as described above. Drinks at dinners or lunches, breakfast on the first day, lunch and dinner on the last day and tips are not included.

NOTE: If you are NOT a U.S. citizen traveling on an American passport, you are responsible for informing yourself of any requirements necessary to visit Morocco as well as acquiring a visa with ample time to participate in these excursions. xxx

Students must enroll and pay for the optional excursions in the U.S. by the final payment deadline. If a minimum enrollment of 25 is not met, the tour may be cancelled. Once paid for in the US optional excursions are non-refundable except in the event of cancellation
