Spend a summer studying and traveling across four European countries and five cities with AIFS! Spend 6 nights in London, 6 nights in Berlin, 3 nights in Prague, 3 nights in Kraków and 5 nights in Warsaw.

AIFS Abroad offers a unique global educational experience for students on this program, with the following academic options available:

Academic credit for this course is awarded by Fairfield University. Fairfield University is a private Jesuit university founded in 1942 in Fairfield, Connecticut, well known for their commitment to international education. Fairfield is a fully accredited university and member of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. 

In 2020 Fairfield and AIFS partnered to develop a school of record relationship that will allow academic credit to be available for both Fairfield and non-Fairfield students. 

Course syllabi and faculty credentials are reviewed and approved by Fairfield University. 

In this program, students will attend lectures, workshops and watch guest speakers. They will also visit relevant sites such as the House of Wannsee, Terezin and Auschwitz – Birkenau.

Living Abroad

Day 1Optional overnight flight from the U.S. to London.* 
Day 2Arrive in London. Transfer to London residence.* Orientation meeting with AIFS staff including preparation for course content and discussion on trauma. 
Day 3Morning class followed by guided sightseeing tour of London. Welcome dinner. 
Day 4Morning class followed by a visit to the Holocaust Exhibition at the Imperial War Museum. 
Day 5Morning class followed by a free afternoon.
Day 6Visit to the Weiner Library for the Study of the Holocaust and Genocide for a talk and a visit to the temporary exhibition on the International Tracing Service. Afternoon class. 
Day 7Study day.
Day 8Transfer from London residence to the airport for flight to Berlin. Sightseeing tour followed by a group dinner. 
Day 9Morning class. Afternoon self-guided visit to the Topography of Terror exhibit. 
Day 10Morning class followed by a walking tour of the Jewish sector to include the site of the Old Synagogue; Womens’ Protest Memorial; Hackesche Höfe; Otto Weidt courtyard; Old Cemetery site (Moses Mendelssohn’s burial place); Jewish Boys’ School; New Synagogue and Bebelplatz (site of the Nazi book burning). 
Day 11Morning class followed by an afternoon visit to Sachsenhausen Memorial by public transportation with audio guides.
Day 12Morning class followed by a guided tour of the House of the Wannsee Conference. 
Day 13Morning seminar at the German Resistance Memorial Center. Free afternoon. 
Day 14Transfer from Berlin to Prague with a visit to Terezin Concentration Camp and tour of the ghetto en route including a packed lunch. Check into accommodation in Prague. 
Day 15Guided walking tour of Prague Old Town, including the famed Charles Bridge and a tour of a local brewery including a group lunch. 
Day 16Morning class followed by entrance to the Jewish Museum including a guided walking tour of the Jewish quarter.
Day 17Morning class followed by a transfer from Prague to Kraków through the beautiful Moravia wine region with a group lunch en route. Check into accommodation in Kraków. 
Day 18Guided tour of Kazimierz where more than 70,000 Jews lived before World War II, including visits to the Old Synagogue Museum and the ‘Schindler’s Factory’ museum. Dinner at a traditional Polish restaurant. 
Day 19Morning class followed by free time to explore Kraków. 
Day 20Transfer from Kraków to Warsaw with a guided tour of Auschwitz and Birkenau en route. Check into accommodation in Warsaw. 
Day 21Visit to Lazienki Palace and Botanic Gardens, balance of the day free.
Day 22Half-day excursion from Warsaw to Treblinka Extermination Camp including a group lunch. 
Day 23Morning class followed by a tour of the Warsaw Ghetto including entrance to the Jewish Cemetery and visit to the POLIN Museum of the History of the Polish Jews. 
Day 24Morning final review session followed by a free afternoon. Farewell group dinner. 
Day 25Optional return flight from Warsaw to the U.S.*

Optional Flight Package

Students can select an optional transportation package for all AIFS programs. Students who choose to book their own flights should meet up with group at the program location and will need to make their own ground transportation arrangements.

Below are fees by departure city based on average historical costs and subject to change. If you select this option on your application, the total flight package price will be confirmed in your account 6 months prior to departure. (Program fee is guaranteed.)
