AIFS Resident Director

Dr. Simona Michelotti

Phone: (39) 377 2608303

Ciao! I have been working with AIFS since 1988. I was born in Malta and received my Laurea from the University of Florence. I also studied abroad, spending a summer in the U.S. I love traveling and continue to enjoy comparing different cultures. In the academic year I am based in Florence at the Richmond Study Center where I am the Director of the International Internship Program and the summer programs. Our goal is always to try to transmit our culture through the courses and activities we offer and I am very excited to introduce you to this beautiful region in the Italian Alps where you will learn so much about the Italian way of life and one of our national passions-food!

It is important to me to share my time with you during your program and to get to know you better. I am very much looking forward to welcoming you to one of my favorite regions of Italy and to helping you learn about our culture as we experience it by day!

The Resident Director provides academic advice, introduces you to the community and handles communication with the University.

Housing and Meals

Live in a centrally located hotel in Munich and in a student residence in the historical center of Brixen. You will be living right in the heart of the city with locals as your neighbors, and be able to walk to class each day. You will receive a total of 10 vouchers for lunch or dinner at a choice of selected local restaurants or 'trattorie'. These are not student caféterias but great local eateries where you can sample regional culinary delights. Information will be given to you upon arrival with your vouchers showing you where all the restaurants are as well as explaining the special set menus that have been selected and arranged just for AIFS students.

Cultural Activities

Learning does not begin or end in the classroom. To help you get a true taste of Italian culture, various activities will be organized such as:

  • 3-night Munich stopover and visit to the Neuschwanstein Castle (the inspiration for Disney’s Sleeping Beauty castle)
  • Visit to a winery and wine cellar
  • Visit to a milk factory
  • Trip to Bozen and the Iceman Ötzi museum
  • Walking tours
  • Museum visits
  • Visit to a brewery
  • Pasta-making class
  • Cheese tasting
