Richmond, The American International University in London - Italy

This program is taught by Richmond, The American International University in London. The University is an independent, non-profit international university of liberal arts and professional studies. It is accredited by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. In addition to the U.S. degree granting authority, it has U.K. taught degree awarding powers granted by the U.K. Privy Council. It is the first university in the U.K to have dual degree awarding powers.

The Director of the Brixen Program is supervised by the Richmond administration in London. Professors in the Richmond study abroad programs are appointed by the University both from its own faculty and from cooperating institutions.

Academic Overview

Admissions Administration is carried out by the Resident Director under the supervision of the Richmond administration in London.

Admissions Requirements Open to high school graduates, college freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors with a minimum 2.5 GPA (lower GPAs will be considered on a case by case basis).

Assessment and Grading The course work required varies with the nature of the material covered. Instructors are likely to use some combination of quizzes, papers, final exams, projects and class participation. Grades are awarded by instructors on a 4.0 scale, which assigns values to pluses and minuses within the letter grade awards:

Outstanding achievement
Achievement above that necessary to complete the course requirements
Work barely meets requirements
Incomplete (this grade may stand only for one week after completion of the course)

Attendance is required to receive full credit. Students exceeding the permitted number of absences will fail the course.

Credit Hours are in parentheses. Credit for the course is equal to American credits based on one credit for a minimum of 15 classroom hours plus home study. Classes are taught Monday through Thursday for a total of 45 hours.

Grades No AIFS participant is permitted to take the course without receiving a grade. Pass/Fail grade options are not available.

Transcripts are issued by Richmond, The American International University in London. On completion of the program an official copy will be sent to your home institution.
