Study Abroad in Limerick: Cultural Excursions

London, England (2 nights)

Included only for students on the optional AIFS Flight Package

Get to know your fellow students before traveling to campus with a 2-night stopover in London! Stay in a centrally-located hotel with breakfast each morning and take a sightseeing tour with a professional guide who will point out some of London’s famous landmarks including Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, the Houses of Parliament and the Tower of London. You will also have free time to visit museums, see a play or stroll in London’s beautiful parks.

Includes accommodations, breakfast and sightseeing as indicated. Lunch and dinner are not included.

Dublin (day trip)

Early morning departure for Dublin city where you will take a sightseeing tour of historical and cultural Dublin and visit the Book of Kells exhibition at Trinity College. You will also have an opportunity to visit the famed Guinness Storehouse.

Includes transportation, a guided tour and entrance to the Guinness Storehouse.

West of Ireland (Lahinch and the Burren) (day trip)

Depart by bus for Lahinch, a popular seaside village in County Clare, on the west coast of Ireland. Tea, coffee and scones will be served upon arrival. Visit the Burren, a karst limestone region of approximately 300 square miles, teeming with such geological oddities as labyrinthine cave systems, disappearing streams and lakes, tiered hillsides and oddly dissected pavements.

After soup and sandwiches at a typical Irish restaurant, hike the Cliffs of Moher, a line of sheer cliffs some 5 miles in length, extending from Lough Point in the north to Cancregga in the south. After dinner, return to Limerick by private bus.

Limerick City and Bunratty Castle (day trip)

Tour Limerick City where you will visit St. John’s Castle, built in the 11th century and the centerpiece of Limerick’s historic area. Then head to St. Mary’s Cathedral, located on the banks of the River Shannon, with many relics dating from the days of the siege of Limerick in 1691. Eat lunch at a typical Irish restaurant, then take a guided tour of Bunratty Castle and Folk Park, a perfectly restored medieval keep, six miles north of Limerick.

Aran Islands (2 days)

Visit the Aran Islands located in Galway Bay off the west coast of Ireland. The three Aran Islands of Inis Mór (Big Island), Inis Meáin (Middle Island) and Inis Oírr (East Island) are famous for their historical monuments and geological formation, and are one of the only places in Ireland where the Irish language is still spoken daily. Take a ferry to the island and have an overnight stay in Inis Oírr to experience the history, music, dance and culture of Ireland. Hire a bicycle to explore this virtually untouched landscape and visit the Plassey Shipwreck and lighthouse which is perched on top of cliffs of 300 ft in height.
