Academics

AIFS Abroad offers a unique global educational experience for students on this program, with the following academic options available:

Dublin City University has been recognized as one of the top 50 universities under 50 years old and is in the top 5% of universities for business students. DCU hosts 17,500 students including 1400 students from around the world and is ranked 12th globally for sustainability.

Students will have access to modern libraries, an award winning gym and sports facilities, a healthy living center, on campus restaurants and coffee shops and over 150 clubs and societies. DCU also boasts a brand-new student center with an entrepreneurship and innovation hub and the Helix National Theatre.

Fairfield University

Fairfield University is a private Jesuit university founded in 1942 in Fairfield, Connecticut, well known for their commitment to international education. Fairfield is a fully accredited university and member of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.

In 2020 Fairfield and AIFS partnered to develop a school of record relationship that will allow academic credit to be available for both Fairfield and non-Fairfield students.

Course syllabi and faculty credentials are reviewed and approved by Fairfield University. See GE 298 for internship course description.

The International program at Dublin City University gives visiting students the opportunity to take a wide variety of courses (subject to prerequisites) from 5 different academic streams studying alongside local students. The university offers a flexible curriculum across the humanities & social science, business, engineering & computing, science & health science and education fields with students typically taking 4 courses per semester from one of these streams. Students may choose up to six 3-credit courses but to ensure a manageable workload we recommend a maximum of 5.

Working side by side with locals is an ideal way to gain insight into another culture, to understand different approaches and to prepare for the realities of working in a multicultural and interdependent world. AIFS Abroad has designed the Study + Internship Program to combine a traditional academic learning experience with a unique opportunity to study working life in Ireland firsthand with placements in Dublin based organizations.

Students select two or three courses of 3 credits each from the regular offering of courses on the International Program at DCU in addition to a 6-credit internship in their field of study for up to 15 credits. Placements are available in the following fields: accounting, business, communications, engineering, finance, graphic design, IT, law, marketing, NGO (a non-profit organization), psychology and many more.

In a competitive world, practical experience is an invaluable addition to classroom learning. The internship provides vital insight into a career field, experience in the global workplace, practical exposure to the demands of specific jobs and development of professional and personal skills. International work experience helps students test a potential career path while exploring interests and abilities in new ways.

Credit for the internship placement is awarded by Fairfield University.

Hi, my name is Greta and I’ll be looking after you in Dublin. Originally from Limerick, I have lived and worked abroad for most of my life in places such as London, Sydney, San Francisco, New York and Chile.
