Study Abroad in Athens: Overview

Program at a glance

  • Due to visa regulations, we recommend you apply early
  • Program fee includes tuition, housing, a meal allowance, excursions and cultural activities, trips to Ancient Delphi and the Sanctuary of Apollo, the island of Hydra and Nafplio, Palamidi Castle and Nemea, and more. Optional AIFS Flight Package available.
  • Courses include anthropology, archaeology, art history, classics, communications, dance, drama, economics and finance, environmental studies, Greek philosophy, history, hospitality and tourism, international business, international relations, languages, literature, management, marketing, mathematics, music, oceanography, philosophy, psychology, sociology and writing
  • Visa required before travelling to Greece
  • The local AIFS Resident Director and staff organize cultural activities and housing, act as a liaison between students and the university, and are available 24/7 in case of emergencies
  • Transcripts issued by the American College of Greece

AIFS Study Abroad Scholarships available!
The scholarship deadline is April 15 for the Academic Year/Fall Semester and September 15 for the Spring Semester.


A student visa is required by the European Union for non-EU citizens or residents. Students are responsible for obtaining the visa and may need to travel to a Greek Consulate at their own expense to apply and pick up their passport/visa in person. Keep in mind that you should start the visa process 10-12 weeks prior to the semester you are planning to enroll.

I truly believe that studying abroad is one of the best ways to gain a cultural and global education and self-awareness.

I am a graduate of Ithaca College, where I received a Bachelor's degree in Leisure Services with a focus on sustainable tourism. After studying abroad in London my junior year, I discovered my passion for international education. After graduating, I packed up my car and moved out to California, where I managed international education tours for a small tour operator prior to joining AIFS in 2006. My ten years in educational travel have led me to many areas of the world. Whether you are just starting to consider study abroad or need assistance finalizing what to pack, I am here to help.
