AIFS Program at a Glance - Fall 2018 & Spring 2019

  • Academic Year, Fall or Spring Semester
  • Courses taught in English and German (No previous German language study required for the European Studies Program)
  • Open to second semester sophomores, juniors and seniors
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Program fee includes tuition, housing, a meal allowance, transportation pass, museum pass, orientation workshops, excursions and cultural activities, and more. Optional AIFS Flight Package available.
  • Courses include architecture, art, business, cinema, economics, environmental studies, German language, history, law, literature, philosophy, politics, sociology, statistics, transatlantic relations and women and gender studies
  • Visa is obtained for U.S. citizens in Berlin shortly after arrival
  • The local AIFS Resident Director and staff organize cultural activities and housing, act as a liaison between students and the university, and are available 24/7 in case of emergencies
  • Comprehensive Insurance and assistance package
  • Transcripts issued by Freie Universität Berlin European Studies Program (FU-BEST)
  • Volunteer opportunities available

    Application and Scholarship Deadlines

    AIFS Study Abroad Scholarships available!
    The scholarship deadline is April 15 for the Academic Year/Fall Semester and October 1 for the Spring Semester.

    Visa

    U.S. citizens do not need to apply for a visa before traveling to Germany and can enter Europe on a 90-day “tourist visit” which is provided on arrival in Germany. AIFS staff will then assist students in applying for a student visa. If you are a non-U.S. citizen you may need to apply for a Type - D national visa before traveling to Germany. Please contact the AIFS Admissions Officer for further information.

    Originally from New Hampshire, I received my bachelor's degree from the University of New Hampshire and my master's degree from the University of Bridgeport. As an undergraduate, I studied abroad in Brisbane, Australia, which sparked my passion for international study and travel. After graduating from UNH, I returned to Australia for three months, volunteering for a non-profit in Sydney. Upon my return, I sought a job in international education and joined AIFS in 2006. Outside of work, I enjoy yoga, sewing, and getting back to my New Hampshire roots by spending time outdoors.
