Homestay Family

The homestay experience can be the most rewarding part of your time abroad. It is the best way to learn French, gain a unique and personal insight into French culture and integrate into the local community. Many students keep in touch with their families after they return to the U.S.

All families are carefully chosen and have to meet high standards in order to be a part of the homestay program. Many have worked with AIFS and hosted international students for a number of years and are very experienced at providing students with what they need. You will share a room with another AIFS student and there may be other international students living in the house. All homestay students are given their own key so that they can come and go as they choose. Breakfast is provided daily. All homes have Internet facilities and there is privacy for study.

Meals: You will receive breakfast every day plus a weekly meal. You will receive three snack vouchers per week, three group dinners and vouchers for two 3-course meals.

Student Residence ($3,500 supplement in Fall Quarter; $4,900 supplement in Fall Semester; $5,400 supplement in Spring Semester)

The student residence is centrally located, close to famous monuments and districts and with easy access to the Metro and bus station for travelling around the city.

You will share a double room with another AIFS student and share a bathroom. Bed linen and a regular cleaning service are provided.

Meals: Residence students will receive a meal plan including breakfast and lunch Monday through Friday (which may be in the form of an allowance).

Shared Self-Catering Apartments ($2,500 supplement in Fall Quarter; $4,000 supplement in Fall Semester; $3500 supplement in Spring Semester)

AIFS apartments are located throughout the city in different residential areas. Typically four AIFS students share a two bedroom apartment with shared kitchen/living area and bathroom. Apartments come with Internet access for students with laptops and tablets. The apartments are not located in student blocks but regular apartment blocks with real Parisians as your neighbors. They are located up to 45 minutes from the office and classrooms by public transport.

Meals: Meals are not included as you will be able to cook in the apartmentís kitchen facilities. You will receive three snack vouchers per week, three group dinners and vouchers for two 3-course meals.

Cultural Activities

In addition to excursions a cultural calendar of weekly activities and social events is included in your program fee. These activities will include both typical tourist sites and attractions and lesser known visits which take advantage of the expert knowledge of our local AIFS staff and give you a more authentic and insightful view of French life. Typical activities, tours and visits include:

  • Monet's gardens in Giverny
  • the beautiful Ch‚teau of Vaux-le-Vicomte
  • walking tour of Montmartre district
  • The Louvre
  • Rodin Museum
  • Cluny Museum

Bonjour! "Hello" in French, one of the four languages I am fluent in, along with English, German and Slovak. You have quite the experience awaiting you in Paris; from the cultural activities offered, the number of museums to visit and the various people you'll meet, it is sure to be an amazing time.

I studied for three separate MA degrees in Paris and Grenoble and have lived in four different countries. I consider myself a "global citizen" and am looking forward to helping you to adjust to your time abroad. As your Resident Director, I am here to advise, listen, help and encourage you to make your stay in Paris a wonderful experience that you will always remember.

My office is located right in the heart of the city and my door is always open.

The Resident Director provides academic advice, introduces you to the community and handles communication with the University.

AIFS Campus Staff with First Aid Training

Because health and safety are top priorities at AIFS, at least one member of the staff at this campus has taken a first aid course in order to be available to help any student until a doctor or nurse can provide help. This is just one of many services that we provide to our students.
