Institut de Langue et de Culture Franšaises (ILCF)

ILCF is a department of the Catholic University of Paris, a wellknown and highly respected private university approved and recognized by the French Ministry of Education. Founded in 1948, ILCF welcomes students from all over the world who want to learn French and take courses to become acquainted with French culture and civilization in a French environment. The J-term program offers an Art History course in Architecture taught in English.

Cours de Civilisation Franšaise de la Sorbonne (CCFS)

The prestige of the Sorbonne is matched by few educational institutions. A centralized institution from its foundation until 1968, the Sorbonne is now one of the dozen or so independent units of the University of Paris. Dating back to 1919, the Cours de Civilisation Franšaise de la Sorbonne has the status of a private institution for the teaching of French as a foreign language. It also provides high level courses about French culture and civilization in French and in English. The J-term program offers a Fine Art course in French fashion taught in English.

Academic Overview

Admissions Requirements Open to high school graduates, college freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors with a minimum 2.5 GPA. Lower GPAs will be considered on a case by case basis.

On-site courses Both courses are held on-site either in museums/temporary exhibitions or in different districts of the town, remarkable for their architecture/monuments.

Attendance is required for full credit. Unexcused absences are not permitted.

Credit Hours are in parentheses. Classes are held for 4 hours a day, Monday through Friday for a total of 45 hours.

Grades No AIFS participant is permitted to take a course without receiving a letter grade. Pass/Fail grade options are not available.

Transcripts are issued by the Institut de Langue et de Culture Franšaises or the Cours de Civilisation Franšaise de la Sorbonne. On completion of the program an official copy of the transcript will be sent to your home institution.
