AIFS Program at a Glance - January Term 2018

  • 2-week January term Study Abroad in Havana, Cuba
  • Open to high school graduates, college freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors
  • Minimum GPA of 2.5 required (lower GPAs will be considered on a case by case basis)
  • Program fee includes tuition, housing, a meal plan, excursions and cultural activities, and more.
    Optional AIFS flight package available.
  • Earn 3 semester credits
  • No previous Spanish language study required
  • Courses in intensive Spanish language and culture
  • The local AIFS Resident Director and staff organize cultural activities and housing, act as a liaison between students and the university, and are available 24/7 in case of emergencies
  • Comprehensive Insurance and assistance package
  • Transcripts issued by the University of Havana

Visas

U.S. citizens must seek authorization to travel to Cuba in the form of a “general license” from the Department of Treasury’s OFAC office. U.S. citizens must also apply for and receive a tourist visa issued by the government of Cuba. AIFS will apply for the OFAC license and the Cuban visas on behalf of students who apply within program deadlines.

Non-U.S. citizens are responsible for making all necessary arrangements for obtaining a visa as required.

My interest in international and cultural education began when I was an undergraduate at Pace University in New York. As a research assistant, my work focused on ethnicity, race, gender and culture, as well as local environmental issues. I continued to pursue my interests in cultural education by studying abroad with AIFS during my junior year in London, England. I loved the experience so much that I decided to finish my degree in England and I graduated from Richmond, The American International University in London with a bachelor's degree. After graduating, I began my professional career in international education as an Admissions Officer with AIFS in November 2006. In 2012, I received my master's degree from Fordham University in New York, New York.
