Dr. Nancy Ross Mahon

Clinical Professor

Pennsylvania State University

Nancy Ross Mahon, Ph.D. is a clinical professor at the Pennsylvania State University, Smeal College of Business. She primarily teaches leadership communication to students enrolled in Penn State’s MBA and specialty masters’ programs. With an avid interest in intercultural communication, Nancy has led study abroad programs in France and Morocco, Spain, the United Kingdom, and Croatia. She also serves as a faculty council member of her college’s Center for Global Business Studies.

Nancy’s scholarship has explored a range of business communication topics, including

occupational gender-based inequity, charisma as a communicative construct, nonverbal

communication, the role of case competitions in business education, benefits from study abroad programs, managing information overload, creativity in business student works, and developing communication programs for accounting students. She is an active member of the Association for Business Communication, an international, interdisciplinary organization committed to advancing business communication research, education, and practice, and serves as the organization’s Eastern United States Regional Vice President.

A New York native, Nancy earned a master’s and doctorate in communication from the Pennsylvania State University. Her interest in and appreciation for intercultural education and communication stems from her experiences as a child of an adult immigrant to the United States. The opportunity at a young age to experience other cultures heightened Nancy’s awareness of the enormous benefits individuals gain by engaging in international experiences and educational programs.
