Katherine received her BA (Honors) in Russian and German from the University of Sheffield, England. She spent a semester in Hamburg, Germany, in fall semester 2001 and at St. Petersburg State University in Russia in spring semester 2002. She returned to teach English as a foreign language at The Benedict School in St. Petersburg for academic year 2003-2004.

In June 2005, Katherine completed an MA in Politics and Sociology at The European University in St. Petersburg. During that academic year she was the Representative for British University students in St. Petersburg on the Russian Language Undergraduate Studies program, sponsored by the network of British universities.

The Resident Director helps with all aspects of life and study in St. Petersburg, gives academic advice and serves as a liaison with the University.

Summer/Fall 2008 Acting Resident Director

Until October 2008, Ms Kathryn Alcock will be the Acting Resident Director of the AIFS program in St Petersburg while Katherine Wells is on maternity leave.

Kathryn is a former ballet dancer and Tour Manager for Russian ballet companies, whereby she acted as Russian/English interpreter for theatre and company directors and artists as well as medical staff.  She has worked with the Marinsky (Kirov) Ballet Company in St Petersburg, the Bolshoi Ballet in Moscow and the Royal Opera House in London.

Kathryn studied Russian at the University of Westminster in London and did an Advanced Russian course at St Petersburg State Technical University in 2006/07.  Kathryn has extensive experience in group management including cultural tours and accommodation, and is well suited to the position of Acting Resident Director for the AIFS program.
