What interns are saying:
“I knew coming here to Italy that I wanted an experience of a lifetime, by participating in this Internship I got more than I ever dreamed of! I chose to do the Internship because I wanted to completely immerse myself into the Italian culture. An Internship would give me just that immersion into the culture and also help me share the culture, the past, and my own experience here with other travellers. This Internship has taught me many lessons. It taught me not only the typical lessons: history, art, but also lessons about life and of self. I had the privilege of giving tours at two of the most monumental churches in Florence: Santa Croce and Santa Maria del Fiore (Duomo).”
– Laura Grindey, Antelope Valley College
"I've come to Italy for four amazing months as a part of this study abroad program in order to learn something about the country, the culture, the language and something about myself. So far, with only one month left, I have fallen in love with the food, the people, the scenary and the overall experience of being here in Florence. I'm not even sure that I’m ready to go home. Never having really enjoyed the courses part of being a college student, I have been blessed with the incredible opportunity of interning as an English assistant in three very different elementary schools around the city. As an Education major, I could wish for nothing more than the ability to interact with children in a different environment than the one I’m used to in the United States; to see the differences and similarities in the workings of a classroom abroad compared to those of a suburban American school. I had no idea that over the course of my time here I would be given so much responsibility, or that I would grow so much in not only my strength as an educator, but also in my strength as a person.”
– Julia Rinegar, University of Hawaii at Ug Manoa
“When I found out that there was the opportunity to participate in an Internship while abroad was the moment that cemented the idea that I would study abroad for a year in Florence, Italy. I knew that I had wanted to study abroad during college in Italy since I was an exchange student in high school. I had originally planned on studying abroad for only a semester until I found out that it was possible to participate in an International Business Internship during the second semester of the program and that year students were usually qualified enough to actually carry out the Internship. My major is International Studies with a minor in International Business so I felt this opportunity was priceless for me… I was placed in an office with the Consorzio Firenze Albergo… The consortium mainly deals with online booking services for hotel owners to try to facilitate the reservation process and in turn increase the success of the hotels… this experience was wonderful for me; it gave me a chance to enhance my Italian language skills, to experience what working in the tourism sector is like, and to meet new people. I would not have changed a thing about this experience and I am happy that I was able to participate in something like this during my lifetime”
– Cierra Lockwood, California Lutheran University
