Study Abroad in Florence: Cultural Excursions

London, England (3 days)

Included only for students on the optional AIFS Flight Package

Get to know your fellow students before traveling to campus and take a sightseeing tour with a professional guide who will point out some of London’s famous landmarks including Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, the Houses of Parliament and the Tower of London. You will also have free time to visit museums, see a play or stroll in London’s beautiful parks.

Includes accommodations, breakfast, entrance fees and sightseeing as indicated. Lunch and dinner are not included.

Optional excursion to Venice (3 days–$425)

Mandatory for students taking ARH273 Introduction to Italian Art.

Departure by bus for early evening arrival in Venice. The next morning, take a guided walking tour of Venice, including the Doges’ Palace, Bridge of Sighs and St. Mark’s Square. Rest of the day free for individual activities.

On the third day, visit the Accademia Museum, the churches of Santa Maria dei Frari and San Rocco, as well as other points of interest before returning to Florence.

Optional excursion to Rome (3 days–$595)

Mandatory for students taking ARH273 Introduction to Italian Art.

Arrive in Rome where you will visit the Colosseum, San Pietro in Vincoli, the Roman Forum and Campidogilio.

The next day, a local guide will introduce every phase of Rome’s history including a visit to St. Peter’s, the mother church of the Catholic world. Visit the Vatican museums, with the spectacular Sistine Chapel and the magnificent Raphael rooms.

On the third day, visit the Piazza di Spagna, Sant ‘Ivo della Sapienza, the Pantheon, Santa Maria Sopra Minerva, S. Ingazio, the Trevi Fountain, Sant’Andrea al Quirniale, San Carlo alle Quattro Fontane and Santa Maria della Vittoria. In the afternoon, continue with the educational visit, spending time at the Palazzo Spada, Galleria Spada, Piazza Farnese, Campo dei Fiori, Palazzo della Cancelleria, Santa Maria della Pace and the Piazza Navona.

Please note that the optional Rome excursion is offered prior to the start of the program. Together with the Venice excursion, students receive one academic credit through participating on both excursions and submitting a paper. Students can select the optional AIFS Flight Package including a stopover in London or make their own flight arrangements to Rome to join the excursion on May 23.

For both excursions, the fee includes transportation, accommodations, breakfast, sightseeing and entrances as indicated. Students must enroll and pay for excursions by April 15. Students who apply after the deadline may enroll subject to availability. If a minimum enrollment of 10 is not achieved, the tour may be cancelled. Once paid for in the U.S. optional excursions are non-refundable.
