Monica , a native of Montecatini, Tuscany, received her MA from the University of Florence, and did a post-graduate diploma in American studies at Smith College. Her experience includes considerable research in American literature and language teaching methodology.
Monica joined the AIFS/Richmond team in Florence in 1984, and was soon promoted to Resident Director. She manages a team of seven staff in Florence. She has been with the Richmond Study Center since 1984. She speaks English, Italian and conversational French. Her interests include literature, poetry, music, theatre and cinema.

Simona was born in Malta and received her laurea in Pedagogy with a specialization in Psychology from the Florence University in 1997. She has been working with AIFS/Richmond since 1998 and since 2001 she has been the Director of the Florence Summer School. During the Academic Year she is also the Resident Director of the Florence Internship Program and the Assistant Director and Coordinator of the Volunteer Program in Florence, which has more than 40 students per semester.
The Resident Directors provide academic advice, introduce you to the community and handle communication with the University.
Special features of the AIFS program:
Fall semester starts with two weeks of intensive Italian language at Viareggio on the Mediterranean Coast. Spring semester starts with two weeks in the medieval town of Siena.
The program includes a three-day visit to London, four-day visit to Rome and a three-day visit to Venice. Students live in a furnished apartment or with an Italian family and receive restaurant vouchers for breakfast or lunch and dinner five days a week. The Richmond Study center is in a 16th century palace near the Ponte Vecchio, in the heart of Florence. An Internship program is also available in the fall semester; students work at major companies and institutions based in Florence for academic credit.
