Study Abroad in Hyderabad: Academics

Students take courses as part of the University's Study India Program (SIP) established in 1998. It is an interdisciplinary initiative emphasizing heritage, continuity and change in India. Students are encouraged to take one language class plus 3 other content courses choosing from the specially-designed SIP courses as well as the regular course list for university students. Peer tutors are available for the language class.

Course load

The normal course load is 4 courses for 4 credits each, totaling 16 credits for the semester. Each course is taught for a total of 60 classroom hours. Regular university courses will change based on the semester. Sample course lists are available on request.

Grades

The final grade is based on an internal assessment and final exam. No AIFS participant is permitted to take a course without receiving a letter grade. Pass/Fail grade options are not available.

Teaching method

Indian Universities largely follow the lecture-based style of classroom teaching, rather than discussion-based classes. A final exam and regular assignments are mandatory.

Attendance

Students must attend classes or provide valid excuses for absence. Failure to account for absences may result in mandatory withdrawal from the course.
