Dominic Alessio was born in Wales of Irish/Welsh and Italian parentage but grew up in Canada where he obtained a BA (Combined Honours in English and History) and MA (History) at McMaster University, Ontario. In 1989 he was awarded a Commonwealth Scholarship to New Zealand where he completed his Ph.D. in History. He speaks English, Italian, French, and Welsh. He writes on science fiction, empire, the far right, and visual culture, and has published widely. A former canoe guide and epee fencer, he now spends most of his spare time with his two children and enjoys hiking in the Welsh mountains and swimming in the Med.

Ged graduated from Coventry University in 1998. Whilst a student himself he was involved with Student Welfare and went onto work for the University Student Services department for two years following graduation, specifically with special needs students. He has spent extended periods of time living and working on the East Coast (Boston) and West Coast (Lake Tahoe) of the U.S.

Since 2000 he has worked for AIFS in London, Paris and Florence, helping students make the most of their study abroad opportunity. He has been heavily involved with Richmond Summer Programs during this time and became Resident Director in 2005. In his free time he enjoys cycling, skiing and the great outdoors.

The Directors provide academic advice, introduce you to the community and handle communication with the University.
