Study Abroad in Prague: Cultural Travel
From Prague, students can easily reach the nature and culture of southern and western Bohemia, its mountains and forests, cities and medieval towns. Students can experience the café culture of Vienna, Berlin's night-life, Munich's modern art museums or Budapest's old-world charms. Travel throughout the Republic by bus or train is easy and inexpensive.
3-day visit to London and overnight in Munich (Included in fee)
Every semester begins with a 3-day visit to London and an overnight visit to Munich, en route to Prague.
Saturday, September 4 or Wednesday, January 26 Morning arrival in London. Balance of the day free.
Sunday, September 5 or Thursday, January 27 Morning sightseeing tour with a professional guide who will point out some of London's most famous landmarks including Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, the Houses of Parliament and the Tower of London. Afternoon and evening free.
Monday, September 6 or Friday, January 28 Transfer to the airport in London for flight to Munich, the capital city of Bavaria. Sightseeing in Munich including the Glockenspiel and Nymphenburg Palace. Overnight in Munich.
Tuesday, September 7 or Saturday, January 29 Afternoon transfer to Prague by bus.
Includes accommodations, breakfast, sightseeing tour and local guide. Lunch and dinner are not included.
Optional 3-day visit to Moravia, Czech Republic ($275)
Moravia is the eastern region of the Czech Republic famous for its wine and beautiful scenery.
Friday, October 22 or February 4 Travel by bus to Brno, the main city of Moravia, stopping in Zdar nad Sazavou to visit the gothic-baroque church dedicated to St. John of Nepomuk, built by the architect Jan Santini Aichl-a UNESCO World Heritage site. Overnight in Brno.
Saturday, October 23 or February 5 Visit to the deep caves of the Moravian Karst, a beautiful wooded hilly area north of Brno. Underground boat trip. Off to Krtiny to visit the Church of the Virgin Mary, also known as the "Pearl of Moravia." Overnight in Brno.
Sunday, October 24 or February 6 Travel to Slavkov, (Austerlitz) where Napoleon was victorious over the Austrians and Russians in 1805. Return to Prague early evening.
3-day visit to Kraków, Poland (Included in fee)
Kraków is one of the great Central European cities: a city of culture, a city of kings and a city of learning. Its beautiful main square is one of the largest in medieval Europe. Its castle at Wawel Hill has existed for more than 1,000 years and is considered by many Poles to be the home of the nation.
Friday, November 12 or April 15 Early morning departure by bus for Kraków, Poland. Sightseeing includes a stroll through Kraków’s Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to Market Square, one of the largest in all Europe. See the intricate Gothic altar masterpiece in St. Mary’s Church. Overnight in Kraków.
Saturday, November 13 or April 16 Students visit Wawel Castle and the Jewish Quarter, Kazimierz, setting for the movie, Schindler’s List. Students visit the remains of the WWII Jewish Ghetto in the Podgórze district. Overnight in Kraków.
Sunday, November 14 or April 17 Morning visit to the Martyrdom Museum in Auschwitz-Birkenau, the infamous Nazi Concentration Camp of WWII, preserved as a memorial to the 1.5 million people of 28 nationalities who perished there. Afternoon departure for Prague by bus.
Visits to both Moravia and Krakow include accommodations, breakfast, travel, entrance fees and sightseeing. Lunch and dinner not included. Dates and itineraries are tentative and subject to change. If a minimum enrollment of 10 is not met the Moravia tour may be cancelled.
Optional 3-day visit to Vienna, Austria ($295)
The grandiose city of Vienna (Wien), with a population of nearly 1.7 million, was the showpiece of the Habsburg Dynasty, which controlled much of Europe for more than 600 years. Despite the ravages of time, its cultural gems remain: monumental edifices line the city center, world class museums burst with historical and artistic treasures and internationally established orchestras perform in lavish concert halls.
Friday, November 19 or April 1 Morning departure by bus for Vienna. Free evening. Overnight in Vienna.
Saturday, November 20 or April 2 Morning visit to Stephansplatz,
where Mozart was married and where his funeral was held. Visit to Belvedere Palace constructed for Prince Eugene of Savoy between 1714 and 1722. The tour ends with a visit to Hundertwasserhaus, designed by the contemporary Austrian artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser. Free evening. Night in Vienna.
Sunday, November 21 or April 3Morning walking tour of the center of Vienna. Afternoon visit to Schönnbrun Palace. Afternoon departure by bus for Prague.
