Study Abroad in San José: Internship Program
Internships provide students with an opportunity to gain valuable work experience within a relevant organization while completing their studies. They are unpaid positions with companies near the University or located in the Central Valley, a bus ride away. Students are placed in positions related to their major and/or interests and are assessed by meetings, journal, reports and a presentation.
The internship is worth 4-6 credits. Students are required to work 30-40 hours per week for two months, under the direction of a workplace supervisor and generally will work on a specific project within the organization. Students must have a high intermediate or advanced level of Spanish to participate in the Internship program. Depending on their level of Spanish, students can either participate in one Spanish course and 3 months of internship or 2 Spanish courses and 2 months of internship to build up a full-time course load. Students who wish to participate in the Internship Program must be enrolled in the 16-week/17-week program.
Students accepted into the Internship program must have a GPA of 2.6. and be 20 years of age by the start of the internship. The student should have at least 2 years of study in the area requested for placement.
