Study Abroad in Nanjing: Overview

Program at a glance

  • Fall or spring semester
  • Open to college freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors
  • 2.5 minimum GPA required
  • Program fees include tuition, housing, meals, excursions and cultural activities, airfare if selected, visit to Beijing and Xian, and more
  • Special program in Mandarin language study for beginners and intermediate levels taught in Mandarin by University professors for 5 credits
  • Courses taught in English on Chinese Cultural History, Economic and Business Development in China, and Chinese Philosophy and Religion (3 to 4 credits)
  • Students are enrolled in the Nanjing University Institute for International Students and live in on-campus student housing with University cafeteria meal allowance and access to the social and cultural life of the University
  • The local AIFS Resident Director and staff organize cultural activities and housing, act as a liaison between students and the university, and are available 24/7 in case of emergencies
  • Transcripts issued by Nanjing University
  • Student visa must be obtained from the Chinese consulate before departure from the U.S.

Application and scholarship deadlines

  • Applications must be postmarked by May 1 for academic year or fall semester; November 15 for spring semester. Applications postmarked after this date are subject to a late fee of $250. Apply online now!
  • AIFS Study Abroad Scholarships available. The scholarship application deadlines are April 15 for academic year or fall semester; October 1 for spring semester.
