Study Abroad in Salzburg: Overview
Program at a glance
- Academic year, fall or spring semester, (summer session also available)
- Open to college freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors
- 2.5 minimum GPA
- Program fee includes tuition, housing, meal allowance, London stopover, excursions
and cultural activities, airfare if selected, trips to Vienna and
Prague, and more
- Courses taught in English in anthropology, art history, business and economics, history, international relations, literature, philoshopy and sociology, plus German language
- No previous German language study required for most courses
- German language
study is optional after orientation
- Special courses in English and German designed for AIFS students
- Classes taught in German require two years of college level study or equivalent. Advanced level students may matriculate directly into University courses if they have had at least two years of college level German (requires an additional month each semester, for a $750 fee)
- 2-week orientation and intensive language preparation at start of semester (2 credits)
- The local AIFS Resident Director and staff organize cultural activities and housing, act as a liaison between students and the university, and are available 24/7 in case of emergencies
- Transcripts issued by the University of Salzburg
- Student visa must be obtained from the Austrian consulate prior to departure from U.S.
Application and scholarship deadlines
- Applications for the academic year or fall semester will be accepted on a space available basis. Spring semester applications must be postmarked by
October 15.
- AIFS Study Abroad Scholarships available. The scholarship application deadlines are April 15 for academic year or fall semester; October 1 for spring semester.
